Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Develop pilgrim tourist resorts of Jammu’ DE May 11, 2017.
The tourism operators from Jammu have rightly conveyed their disappointment on ignoring Jammu region as a tourist destination. Despite having many places of tourists’ interest, Jammu has not emerged as a favourite destination. This is largely due to the fact that the successive Governments have not shown much interest to make Jammu popular among tourists both local and foreign. The Jammu region, it may be mentioned here, is dotted with several scenic spots. These spots are spread in Rajouri, Poonch, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar. Bestowed with natural scenery, snow capped mountains and lush green meadows, these places have their own importance and attraction. What is dismaying is the fact that places have not received much publicity through print and electronic media. Besides, these places can emerge as pilgrimage destination as their landscape is dotted with many beautiful temples, mosques and buildings of historical importance.
The only thing these places need is development with regard to infrastructure. Road and communication connectivity has to be improved. Located as they are in far flung areas of the State, these places have not developed much so as to attract tourists.
Yours etc….
