Jammu Tourism sector

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Govt’s bid to portray J&K as only Kashmir, discourage tourists visiting Jammu’ DE Mar 26, 2019.
It is quite dismaying to note that the agency that was supposed to take care of tourism industry of the State is playing a partisan role by promoting Kashmir as the only tourism destination of the State.
The move is certainly going to give a big setback to tourism sector in Jammu region which was gradually picking up after being neglected for so many years after independence. Otherwise also, the successive State Governments have never attached any importance to promote Jammu region by way of allocating sufficients funds for building requisite infrastrucutre or by way of giving due publicity to scenic spots of the State through print and electronic media.
Negligence of Jammu region may affect the employment sector. It was expected that Government may pay much attention to tourism sector of the region, which in turn would create job opportunities for the unemployed youth of the State.
It is urged to the stakeholders to raise the issue with the concerned authorities before more damage is done.

Sir,
It will sound death knell to the fledgling Jammu tourism sector if the State Tourism Department decided to block publicity of tourism places of this region through print and electronic media. The tourism sector of Jammu region started to grow after militancy rared its ugly ahead in Kashmir valley which remained a tourist’s preferred destination for a pretty long time. It may be said here that both Jammu and Ladakh regions have numerous breathtaking spots which overshadow that of Kashmir region, but due to partisan politics much importance has not been attached to these regions. The Tourism Department can’t promote one region at the cost of the other. It will be a great blunder if the Department did not change this policy.
The Department should frame a policy in a manner that may help the tourism sectors of all the regions. It will be in the interest of the State on the whole as tourism continues to be the mainstay of State’s economy.
