After passing the Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur the vehicle reached at Hatli Morh where it fell into open sewerage drain which was full of water and not to be visible. The vehicle was trapped in drain. Fortunately the family travelling in it had a narrow escape. But the vehicle was damaged and later it was lifted by a crane. The family members showed serious concern over the negligent attitude of NHAI and alleged that they have made the NH a death trap. The family alleged that the NHAI is only collecting the Toll Tax from vehicles just three kms away at Lakhanpur but they do not own the responsibility to maintain the road. A local person Rajesh Mehta alleged that the authority has failed to maintain the Highway at Lakhanpur which has tuned into a Khud. The LG Government need to impose heavy fine on National Highway Authority and order to maintain the Highway immediately.
They said accidents have become a routine affair at Hatli Morh on Jammu -Kathua National Highway due to negligent attitude of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). The open drainage and holes on the highway at Hatli Morh are not new and created in a day. They are two years old and during the rainy season, the open drainage full of water is not seen by the drivers. Even the NHAI have failed to install a signal point at this vulnerable place to give direction to traffic or caution them about the faulty drainage system on the Highway.
