Jammu & Kashmir gets first All Women Post Office

JAMMU, May 16: The first ever All Women Post Office in the State was opened today in Jammu.
With the opening of this Women Post Office here, Jammu and Kashmir has become the third State in the country having Post Office exclusively manned by female officials of Department Of Posts. Delhi has two All Women Post Offices while Mumbai has one.
Located at Kanak Mandi in the vicinity of Raghunath Bazar, Jammu, the All Women Post Office here offers traditional and modern services like booking of registered and speed post articles, e-money order, Western Union Money Transfer, e-payment besides the post office savings bank transactions.
While inaugurating the Post Office, Chief Postmaster General, John Samuel, described the woman empowerment as pre-requisite for healthy society and nation. He said steps were being taken up by the DoP for increasing the confidence level of female Postal Officials and opening of All Women Post Office would surely boost their morale besides giving clear signal in the society that women are not behind in any field.
Mr Samuel announced that an All Women Post Office will soon be opened in Srinagar city.
On the occasion, Chief PMG also gave first prize including a certificate and cheque of Rs 2000 to Jasneh Kour Sudan a student of Delhi Public School for securing first position in the Universal Post Union’s (UPU) Letter Writing Competition organized by the department in the past.
Jagdeep Gupta, Director Postal Services, J&K also spoke on the occasion. Professor Hemla Aggarwal, Principal Government College for Women Parade and large number of people and officials of Department of Posts were present during the inauguration function.
