JAMMU,  May 15:  Strongly pitching for development of the City of Temples as a smart city alongside Srinagar,  National Conference district president Jammu Urban,  Dharamvir Singh Jamwal on Sunday said that the most visited pilgrim destination needs to be remodeled with focus on utility services, civic amenities and overall beautification.
“Jammu is strategically an important city, being gateway to the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi and the tourists’ first choice Kashmir and therefore its development calls for a special dispensation”, Jamwal said while addressing party workers at New Plot this morning.
Jamwal lamented that the PDP-BJP coalition has neglected the city, like other rural and urban areas of the State, as a result of which the city’s problems have increased manifold. In this context, he referred to congestion of roads, especially the Janipur stretch, erratic power and water supply, lack of adequate street lighting and heaps of garbage, saying this speaks volumes about the vision of the insensitive coalition and its capacity to govern. He said that Jammu is craving for development but the Government is nowhere to be seen. “The promises and commitments made to the people have proven as hoax”, he added.
Jamwal referred to the initiatives taken by the Omar led Government during six years and said sewerage, road development and upgradation of civic facilities had got impetus, as a result of which the capital city had witnessed a huge transformation.
He urged the cadre to further intensify mass contact drive and reach out to all segments of people, highlight their problems and seek their redressal at appropriate levels.
The interactive programme with the workers had been organized by Sanjeev Dewan.
Among others who,  spoke on the occasion,  included Ashok Singh Manhas, Dr Tara Chand, Gurnam Singh, DC Sucha Singh, Shabir Samyal,  Pinky Bhat, Sanjeev Honda,  Ramji Koul and Sardar Ashok Singh.
