SRINAGAR, June 1: Deputy Chairman, Legislative Council, Jahangir Hussain Mir today convened a meeting to discuss various issues regarding development of heritage tourism in district Poonch.
Legislators, Shah Mohammad Tantary and Dr. Shahnaz Ganai were also present on the occasion.
Chief Executive Officer Poonch Development Authority, Ashok Kumar and Project Coordinator/Conservation Architect, INTACH (J&K Chapter) Saima Iqbal attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed at length various issues to promote district Poonch as heritage tourism destination and was given out that the district has immense potential of heritage tourism in the shape of ancient fort, Shesh Mahal, Nizam ud Din Mosque and other ancient monuments.
The meeting also discussed various measures to promote adventure tourism, pilgrim tourism, snow tourism and mountaineering and trekking tourism in the district.
The Deputy Chairman directed the Chief Executive Officer to prepare DPR for integrated plan for development of heritage tourism in Poonch district so that required funds would be arranged. He said Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is keen to develop the tourism sector in the district and has already taken a meeting in this regard.
The Deputy Chairman said the services of INTACH (J&K Chapter) have been taken for consultancy to ensure development of ancient forts and building of historic value of the district.
