Jagannath Temple Chief Administrator suspends servitor for three months

PURI, Jan 5: Sri Jagannath Temple Chief Administrator Aravinda Padhee on Sunday suspended Biswanth Khuntia, a temple Servitor for three months for causing violence in the temple, denigrating the image of the administration and the temple.

The suspension order has been issued under section 21(A) of the Sri Jagannath Temple Act.  A direction has been issued to all concerned including the Nijog not to entertain the servitor and

involve him in any rituals of the deities.

According to reports on December 16, two servitors Madan Mohan Khuntia and Biswanth Khuntia clashed inside the temple over a Dakshina dispute. Madan Mohan sustained a bleeding injury.

Later police intervened and initiated a criminal case in the Singhadwar police station and the investigation is on. After the incident came to the knowledge of the Chief Administrator show cause notices were issued on  December 21 to both the servitors to file their response within seven days.

After considering the reply to the show cause notice the Chief Administrator suspended Biswanath Khuntia.

In a press release on Sunday, the Temple Chief Administrator Aravind Padhee warned the servitors

to abide by the temple rules adding violators will be dealt with a heavy hand.
