POONCH, Mar 15: Joint Action Committee (JAC) General Category Poonch, today urged upon the Government to honour the Supreme Court orders on the issue of reservation in promotions.
Addressing a press conference here today, convener of the JAC Poonch, Salim Bandey said that after 11 years of relentless struggle High Court quashed the Reservation in Promotion Rules and held them unconstitutional. The matter assumes significance in wake of the Supreme Court (SC) order of status quo in the SLP filed by reserved category people seeking relief from being demoted.
“The subject issue being subjudice needs to be left to the Apex Court for justice. The matter has been recently heard on February 22 and will again he heard in April. 1t is therefore duty of legislature to refrain from indulging in the sub judice matter”, he added.
He informed that media persons about the sheer partisan approach by none other than the Deputy Speaker of the House, Nazir Gurezi, Minister, Ch Zulfkar Ali and other pro reservation MLAs, who called on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and are pressurizing the Government to issue fresh directions to departments on the issue of ‘No Reservation in Promotions’.
“This is an utter bullying and sheer misconstrued design of the elected representatives, who have conspired to demean the rule of law and are forcing Government to go in for contempt of court orders on the subject. The attempt of these MLAs is to cause further erosion of Article 370 and special status granted to the State of J&K under the Constitution of India”, Bandey added.
He along with other JAC members appealed the Government to stop reserving posts under reservation quota in Promotions and allow promotions to be based on merit obtained in selection lists at the time of appointment.
