SRINAGAR: Appealing to the youths, who have joined militancy in the Kashmir Valley, to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream, Director General of Police (DGP) SK Vaid today assured them that the state police would facilitate their rehabilitation.
“Killing of one person is like killing the whole humanity. In the last couple of months, we (police) were able to bring back 54 youths, who had joined or were about to join militant ranks in the Kashmir Valley,” Dr Vaid said in a video message on micro-blogging site twitter.
He said his heart bleeds for the parents, whose children had joined militancy.
Dr Vaid said his officers spoke to the family members of these youth and with their help were able to persuade them to shun violence.
“We were not just able to save 54 lives, but 54 families. I want that on similar lines other youth, who have taken up arms, shun violence and be a part of the mainstream,” he said.
The DGP assured that J&K police will help the youth to rehabilitate.
He said the police will train them in various skills so that they can earn their livelihood and live with respect and dignity.
“Over 25,000 militants during the last 27 years have left the path of violence and are today living a normal life in the valley. So, I appeal the youth, who have joined militancy, to shun violence and join the main stream,” he added. (AGENCIES)
