SRINAGAR: The State Government today banned the sale of Maggi noodles for one month till reports are received over the fitness for human consumption of the popular fast food.
“All the District Magistrates are hereby directed to impose complete ban on the sale of maggi products in the State,” the State Government said in an order here.
The Government also directed Nestle India, the manufacturer of Maggi noodles, to withdraw all stocks from the market forthwith.
“This restriction will, however, remain in force for a period of one month or till the test report of sampling to be conducted by the concerned Government department/agency is received, whichever comes earlier,” the Government order said.
The decision was taken following media reports about sale and consumption of “unsafe Maggi brand” due to presence of excess Lead and MSG content against the prescribed limits.
Yesterday, the State Government had advised the consumers not to consume Maggi noodles and directed for testing of samples within two days.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Chaudhary Zulfikar Ali said five samples of Maggi products have been lifted from Srinagar for testing and sent to Central Testing Laboratory, Kolkata.
He said, in Jammu 1,27,010 Maggi packets have been seized by the officials of the CAPD and Legal Metrology departments. (AGENCIES)
