JAMMU, Aug 12: Despite clear cut directions from the Ministry of Human Resource Development to the institutions of higher education to call off online recruitment process with immediate effect, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Srinagar conducted online interview for the post of Registrar.
Sources said that conducting the interviews not only raised many eyebrows over intentions of the university but also embarrassed the candidates as well as the experts as they were virtually not audible to each other because of poor internet speed during the interviews.
Nearly 10 shortlisted candidates appeared for the interview, which was conducted on August 10 following a notification in this regard by the university vide IUST Notification number 4 of 2020, dated 22-06-2020.
“As the video as well as audio quality was too bad to put my point in proper perspective due to slow internet speed, it was an embarrassment for the experts as well as me to appear through this mode,” said one of the candidates on the condition of anonymity and raising a question mark on intention of the university to conduct the interviews despite MHRD direction against the same.
Pertinent to mention that on July 29, 2020, Bharat Bushan Bhagat, Deputy Secretary (CU), in the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, through D.O No 48-9/2020-CU.III, had clearly told the Vice Chancellor of Central University of Rajasthan not to hold any recruitment process through online mode.
As per the communication, a copy of which is in the possession of the Excelsior: “It is not advisable to conduct online interviews for the selection of teaching faculty. Moreover a policy decision on online recruitment of teaching faculties is yet to be taken in the Ministry. I would therefore request you to call off the online recruitment process with immediate effect and cancel the selection committee meetings held so far,”
Claiming that it would be injustice if any of them is selected through the online mode, some of the candidates have appealed to the authorities to hold the interview for the post afresh through normal procedure as and when possible.
