SRINAGAR, Aug 12: Chairman People’s Democratic Front (PDF) Hakeem Yaseen has criticized Government’s move to abolish the decision to reserve a ratio of construction projects for Self Help Groups in Jammu and Kashmir.
He has decried the decision to subsume engineering wings of various government departments into only PWD and Jal Shakti Department adding that the move will create a mess and confusion on the ground.
In a statement issued today, Hakeem Yaseen said that the decision to do away with the system in vogue to reserve a ratio of construction projects for unemployed engineers under SHG was a farsighted decision aimed at to provide jobs to unemployed engineering graduates and it’s abolishing would usurp jobs and livelihood means of thousands of educated youth engaged in construction activities.
He said there are around 3500 such Self Help Groups comprising about 20,000 engineering graduates, operating construction activities across J&K adding that doing away with the scheme would have disastrous consequences. He said it was most astonishing that instead of creating more employment avenues for educated unemployed youth , the Government was shrinking existing limited job opportunities available to them under well conceived SHG scheme.
Yaseen has urged the Government to revoke it’s decisions about subsuming engineering departments and doing away will SHG scheme adding that these decisions were anti youth and would bring total developmental pace in Jammu and Kashmir to a grinding halt. He said these decisions , if not revoked immediately, would make the prevailing employment problem in Jammu and Kashmir further complicated and grim. He has cautioned the government to revoke these orders immediately so that affected youth are not compelled to come on roads.
