ITI trained daily rated workers protest at PHE complex

JAMMU, Jan 16: A large number of ITI trained daily rated workers of PHE Department held strong protest demonstration outside the office of Chief Engineer at BC Road complex of the department here today.
The daily wagers of the department from all the divisions of Jammu province, under the banner of PHE ITI Trained Daily Rated Workers Union, affiliated with NTUF assembled at PHE complex BC Road in front of Chief Engineer’s office and held massive protest demonstration. They were supported by need based workers and casual labours engaged by the department. They alleged that these workers have not been paid for the last so many months.
They raised slogans against the higher authorities and also in support of their demands. The main demands of these workers included release of wages of DRWs working in various divisions particularly in Rajouri, Doda and Jammu. Framing of regularization policy for DRWs including ITI trained, engaged after 1994 and enhancement of wages of ITI trained workers. They said skilled workers’ rate of Rs 225 per day be given to the ITI trained workers.
While addressing protesting workers senior trade unionist and president NTUF stressed upon the PHE authorities to settle the pending demands of these workers which are genuine and justified. He said that their pending wages be paid without any delay, otherwise they will be forced to intensify their struggle. Other senior members of the Union Tanveer Hussain, Subash Chander, Deepak Gupta and Chandan Singh also addressed the gathering.
