JAMMU, Oct 24: For the first time, the Income Tax Department organized a grand cultural evening under the leadership of Commissioner, J&K, Arun Kumar Thatai in the auditorium of Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine.
The first lady of the department, Suman Thatai, wife of A K Thatai gave the honour to the occasion by lighting the traditional lamp along with IT Commissioner and prominent CAs, Advocates, members of Trade Unions and Chamber of Commerce.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Thatai said that department is part and parcel of the civil society and there is no scope for harassing any assessee. “The department also suffers in the suffering of the assessees”, he added.
On the occasion, Rakesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Jammu was given warm welcome on his promotion.
A cultural programme was organized with a social play and musical performance given by Suraj Singh and other renowned singers of the State. Bhartiya Lok Sanjeet Kala Sansthan presented a welcome song and Dogri folk dance ‘Geetru’ which made the audience spell bound.
Prominent among those present on the occasion include President CCI Jammu, Y V Sharma, President Federation of Retailers Association, Y P Gupta, CAs, IT lawyers, department officials including R K Kakar, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax Range I Jammu and other leading members of the civil society.
