NEW DELHI: Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday was given a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan and the visiting dignitary also visited Raj Ghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.
Mr Netanyahu inspected guard of honour at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met him on the occasion.
“This is the dawn of a new era,” Mr Netanyahu said. “It began with PM Modi’s historic visit to Israel that created tremendous enthusiasm, it continues with my visit here which I must say is deeply moving for me, my wife and people of Israel,” he told reporters.
On the second day of Mr Netanyahu’s visit, the Prime Minister will hold delegation-level talks with his Israeli counterpart on Monday afternoon. Several agreements and MoUs are expected to be signed in different areas after the talks.
Both sides are also expected to discuss host of issues including defence cooperation, trade, innovation, counter-terrorism, agriculture and water harvesting. Both countries are working together on joint projects in agriculture, water, defence, health, start-ups, space and education.
During Mr Modi’s historic visit to Israel in July last year, the three main topics on the agenda were agriculture, water and innovation.
Mr Netanyahu will call on President Ram Nath Kovind later in the day. Israeli Prime Minister arrived here on Sunday for a six-day visit which has been described as “historic”.
The visit of Mr Netanyahu also coincides with the celebration of 25 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. (agencies)
