TEL AVIV, Feb 18: The Israeli Foreign Ministry called the joint statement by eight Muslim countries condemning the Israeli government’s recent decision to launch a land registration process in the West Bank baseless and misleading.
On Tuesday, the foreign ministers of Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates condemned the Israeli government’s decision to declare land in the West Bank as state property and approve procedures for their registration and the settlement of ownership.
“This text is factually baseless and intentionally misleading. The Palestinian Authority is the one advancing illegal land registration procedures in Area C, in violation of the law and existing agreements,” the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
The ministry explained that the Israeli government approved the administrative measure under civil and property law.
