Irate youth block road, protest against thrashing of Councillor by SHO

KATHUA, July 24: The irate youth blocked the College road for two hours and raised strong protest against the SHO Kathua, O P Chib for alleged manhandling of Muncipal Councillor, Rahul Dev of Shiva Nagar, Kathua yesterday.
The issue took a critical turn when youth including the Shiva Nagar residents, BJP workers came to know about the thrashing of Councillor, Rahul Dev yesterday evening when residents of Shiva Nagar led by him blocked the National Highway at Kalibari over the issue of power crises.
The protesting youth alleged that the SHO Kathua, OP Chib dragged Rahul Dev from Highway and thrashed him to clear the Jam.
Scores of youth today assembled at College road and raised strong protest and block the road for two hours. They were demanding an apology from SHO Kathua in front of media.
The Municipal Council president, Naresh Sharma, vice president, Rekha Kumari, councillor, Randhir Singh, Sanjeev Vaid also reached on the protest venue and supported the demonstration. MC president, Naresh Sharma condemned the attitude of Kathua police in dealing with elected representatives of Municipal Council. He said that thrashing of a respected person in such a way and highhandedness of police is condemnable. He said Municipal Council will never tolerate such act of SHO Kathua. SHO needs to seek apology for his conduct.
Some other speakers also condemned the police conduct and attitude with respected persons. When there is such an attitude of police towards a public representative how will they deal with a common man, they asked?
The traffic was suspended on the busy road and people faced inconvenience.
The Additional SP, DySP Kathua rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protesters and asked them to sort out the matter on table. But the protesters refused to budge till the SHO seeks an apology in front of media. The protestors withdraw the dharna after two hours and warned to resume it tomorrow in case SHO fails to seek apology.
