KATHUA, July 21: The irate villagers of Bagh-e-Chak 10 kms from here, today protested in front of DC Office Kathua against the water scarcity which they have been facing for last two months.
The protestors accused the PHE authorities not paying any heed to solve the problem which forced them to take this extreme step. They also squatted on the College road Kathua and blocked the movement of vehicular traffic for some time.
The protestors said that they had taken the problem with concerned authorities a number of times but to no avail and instead of solving the issue the PHE authorities are blaming PMGSY for damaging the pipes while constructing the road.
They said that the people are not responsible for the same and the PHE Department was liable to restore the water supply instead of making people to suffer.
Later the DC Kathua Ramesh Kumar called the officers of both PHE and PMGSY and urged them to solve the issue immediately.
The PHE officers said that water supply has been affected over one dozen villages due to digging of roads by PMGSY and R&B. They said instead of Government directives that the Department which damages the pipes should restore them they were not cooperating.
