JAMMU, Mar 25: The irate residents held demonstration to express their anguish over the dilapidated condition of fresh water pond in Manhas Mohallah, Upper Barnai, here today.
Large number of people residing in Manhas Mohallah and adjoining areas assembled near fresh water pond and raised slogans against the Government for not taking steps to clean up, renovate and beautify this pond.
While leading the protest, Advocate Nitin Bakhshi said that he ran from pillar to post to get this pond cleaned, renovated and beautified, but nothing has been done till date, which forced the people to held protest against the Government and the concerned department.
He demanded suction of filthy water from the pond, construction of drainage on the perimeter of the pond, construction of path over the drainage along the whole perimeter of pond with iron grilling, construction of walk way with cemented tiles and filling of fresh water into the pond.
Bakhshi warned to intensify the protest if their demands are not redressed at the earliest.
Vicky Mehra alias Laali, a person residing very close to the pond said that it is very difficult for them to even pass through this filthy pond. “We will keep our struggle persistent for the renovation and beautification of this water body which can become a picnic spot in the time to come”, he added.
An old aged person namely Rattan Singh Manhas, who was also present in the protest demonstration said that due to this filthy pond, they don’t allow their children to go outside for playing as they can fall prey to dreadful diseases like dengue, malaria, etc.
One more elderly aged person namely Mangat Ram Gupta said that their area falls under Ward Number 65 of Jammu Municipal Corporation, but the corporation failed to pay heed towards the cleansing, renovation and beautification of this pond.
Among others present were Lucky Choudhary, Ricky Rajput, Sanjay Kumar Thusoo, Pankaj Langoo, Suneet Mehra, Rohit Koul, Rohit Razdan, Neetu, Shallu, Biku Sharma, Tarun Sharma, Vinayak Mahajan, Pidoo Shah, Aman Sharma, Sorabh Rajput, Ravinder Bandral, Hitesh Koul and Rohit Bazaz.
