JAMMU, July 16: Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA) under the leadership of its president Dr M S Dhillon and honorary secretary Dr Atul Srivastava is planning various activities from August 1 to 7 to observe National Bone and Joint Day, which falls on August 4.
This was disclosed by office bearers of J&K Orthopaedic Association (JKOA) including Dr Naseer Ahmed Mir (president) and Dr Rajesh Kumar Gupta (honorary secretary), while addressing a press conference here today.
The activities to be organized during this period include public awareness activities to prevent road accidents, road safety rallies, distribution of pamphlets and posters on road safety to general public, lectures on road safety in schools, public forums and social organizations, basic life support course for paramedics, drivers, students and general public, golden hour trauma management for doctors, free medical camps, free surgeries and free BMD camps for awareness about Osteoporosis.
“This year the theme of observing the day is ‘Road Safety’ as the incidents of road accidents is on the rise in our country”, they said, adding, India has around 5 lakhs victims of RTA every year and most 0f these accidents are preventable. Among these around 1.5 lakhs die due to these injuries. Some loose their limbs and some are left with permanent disabilities of various degrees.
The primary aim of all the activities to be organized from August 1 to 7 is not only to create awareness among people on the various orthopaedic illnesses, which can be prevented or treated, but also be useful to the society.
