SRINAGAR, June 1: Army today foiled a major infiltration bid in Macchil sector of Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district during which one Army personnel was injured
Sources said that troops deployed at the LoC in Macchil sector of Kupwara noticed movement of at least a group of six militants trying to infiltrate into the sector during the wee hours today.
The troops deployed challenged the infiltrators leading to a gun battle. However, the group managed to escape back to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) under the cover of darkness and thick foliage. One Army personnel was injured in the encounter.
Army has foiled several infiltration attempts along the LoC in Kashmir during last one month. So far, 19 militants, who were trying to infiltrate into Kashmir, have been killed but equal number of them managed to sneak in since winter this year.
