JAMMU, Apr 28: Stating that college teachers are not against Biometric attendance, J&K College Teachers’ Association (JKCTA) has stressed that it should be introduced but with the option of flexible timings i.e. with the option of being present for six hours in the college without any stress on the timings.
The issue was discussed threadbare in a meeting of the JKCTA, Jammu Wing, convened by president, Dr Sanjay Verma. The meeting observed that the college teachers have to undergo flexible timings, as the examinations timings of the University and UG examinations conducted by the college teachers are scheduled from 2 pm to 5.30 pm and the teachers have to undergo various other activities like attending conferences, seminars and functions organized in the colleges, beyond their normal working hours.
“Moreover, the college teachers are also involved with research work and have to sit in the college for more than six hour”, the speakers said and unanimously decided that if Biometric attendance is forced on college teachers without modification, they will be forced to adhere to college timings only and no work will be undertaken after the college hours.
The Association appealed the Higher Education Department that before implementing Biometric attendance in the colleges, the genuine concern of the college teachers should be taken into consideration.
Among others who attended the meeting were Prof MS Saini, Prof DS Manhas, Dr Anil Ganjoo, Dr Sunil Gupta, Prof Narayan Dutt, Prof Hans Raj and Prof Vishal Sharma.
