JAMMU, May 14: Carrying forward the drive against narcotic smuggling on the direction of IGP Jammu Danish Rana, Bagh-e-Bahu police today nabbed an intra-state narcotic smuggler along with large quantity of poppy straw (bhukki).
As per police sources, on specific information, police team from Bagh-e-Bahu police station laid a naka near Bye-Pass Jammu and intercepted a load carrier bearing registration number JK03D-3042.
During checking, police recovered 46 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki) and nabbed the narcotic smuggler, who has been identified as Nek Ram, son of Pinju Ram of Kodga Dansal, Jammu.
The accused was carrying the consignment and was about to deliver to his associates for further distribution among the youth to make them drug addicts, but his nefarious designs were foiled by Bagh-e-Bahu police.
A case under FIR number 35/15 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Bagh-e-Bahu police station and further investigation of the case is going on to trace the other persons engaged in this business to make youth drug addicts.
Police team led by SHO Bagh-e-Bahu police station Inspector Jasbir Singh made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
