JAMMU, Oct 9: Today, on last day of International Week of the Deaf, a painting competition was held in the premises of J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra Higher Secondary School for Hearing Handicapped.
The competition was organized by Department of Home Science, University of Jammu (JU) in the presence of Executive Committee Members of the Kendra and Faculty Members of the Department besides Research Scholars and III Semester students of the Department.
Fifty Hearing/Speech challenged students, girls and boys both, participated in the painting competition which was organized in two categories: Junior Group and Senior Group.
Course Work Director, Dr Sarika Manhas while highlighting the objective of the programme said that it was carried out to promote talent among the hearing impaired children.
Appreciation prizes were given to Vaishali Raina, Rabia Salaria and Ruchi in the Senior Group and to Heena, Arshad and Roshi in the Junior Group.
Prof Rajni Dhingra, Dean Faculty of Science, Prof Neeru Sharma, HoD Home Science, Dr Shashi Manhas and Dr Samridhi Arora from JU graced the occasion.
Inderjeet Khajuria, president, J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra expressed his gratitude to the Department of Home Science for promotional activity among special children of the Kendra School.
Others present at the function include PP Sharma, ML Sharma, HN Raina, OP Verma and JK Vaid of Kendra Executive Committee.
International Week of the Deaf is an initiative of the World Federation of the Deaf and it was first launched in 1958 in Rome, Italy.
