KULGAM, May 14: Police here today claimed to have busted an interstate drug trafficking network in the Qazigund area and arrested a woman drug peddler along with two others during an anti-narcotics operation.
A police official said a naka party of Police Station Qazigund at Churrat near Kund Mode intercepted a suspect identified as Shakoor Khan, a resident of Delhi presently staying at Khanabal Batpora, and recovered nearly 6.9 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.
In this connection, he said a case FIR No. 116/2026 under sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act was registered and investigation taken up.
The police official said that during sustained investigation, police traced the backward linkage to a woman identified as Rekha, originally from Bawana in Delhi and presently residing at Sangam.
Acting on specific inputs and after obtaining a search warrant, he said police raided her rented accommodation and recovered around 8.4 grams of heroin, syringes, aluminium foil paper and some stolen property from a concealed underground hideout beneath a bed.
He said the accused during questioning revealed that she had been supplying narcotics to more than 200 clients and peddlers in the region and claimed that nearly Rs 25 lakh earned through drug trade was destroyed in a fire incident at her jhuggi last year.
She also disclosed the involvement of her family members in narcotics trafficking in Kashmir, following which police conducted another raid in Mir Bazar and apprehended her son, Sadam.
The police official said further investigation is in progress to identify the entire network and its forward and backward linkages.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam Anayat Ali Chowdhary said strict action will continue against drug peddlers and appealed to people to share information related to narcotics trafficking and substance abuse.
