JAMMU, Aug 12: International Youth Day was celebrated today with great enthusiasm across length and breadth of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh by various educational, social and political organizations, besides NGOs and Government organizations.
The Day was celebrated at the District Court Complex Kargil under supervision of the Chairman District Legal Services Authority Kargil and Principal and District Sessions Judge Mohd Rafiq Chak. The programme was chaired by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Kargil Nawang Phunsog and moderated by the Secretary District Legal Services Authority Kargil Moneer Ahmad. CJM Kargil and Advocate Muhammad Saleem and Advocate Nissar Hussain spoke on the importance of the day.
The Tehsil Legal Services Committee Drass also observed International Youth Day in collaboration with Government Degree College Drass. The programme was presided over by the Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee Drass Deldan Angmo. Meanwhile, International Youth Day was also observed at Bodh Kharboo by PLV Tsering Choldon in collaboration with Maha Bodhi Middle School.
Further, as reported by the PLVs of District Legal Services Authority Kargil, Stanzin Chorol of Bodh Kharboo, Pasang Dolma of Shargole, Dawa Angmo of Batalik, Rabiya Banoo and Thinles Angmo of Zanskar, Sakina Banoo of Chiktan, Amina Banoo of Baroo and Zahra Batool of Front Office Kargil organized programmes on International Youth Day in their respective areas.
NSS unit of Government College of Education (GCOE) under the patronage of the Cluster University of Jammu also celebrated the International Youth Day by organizing different activities besides participating in run for cleanliness organized by Jammu Municipal Corporation.
Virtual expression of thoughts was organized to solemnize Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav. The program was adroitly conducted by NSS Program Officer Dr Shubhra Jamwal along with NSS volunteers. The theme for the program was “Say No to Plastic Bags” and “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”.
Dr Kulvinder Kour (Principal of GCOE) applauded the efforts of NSS volunteers and stressed the importance of access to safe sanitation facilities in terms of social, economic and health benefits to rural community members especially the vulnerable and marginalized community.
Prof Shapia Shameem Bhatti, Prof Sarita Dogra and Prof Seema Kumari also talked about the various issues that are faced by the youth now-a-days.
To mark the occasion, Anti Drug and Rehabilitation Cell of Government Degree College (GDC) Akhnoor, under the guidance of Principal Dr Namrata, organized a webinar on the topic ‘The Effects of Drug Abuse on Youth’. Students and faculty members from different colleges joined the session. The resource persons for the seminar were Dr Chander Shekhar (Senior Assistant Professor, PG Department of Psychology, University of Jammu) and Inspector Jatinder Singh Rakhwal (SHO Bhaderwah, J&K Police).
NSS Units of GDC Kathua in collaboration with Electoral Literacy Club of the College celebrated the Day, under the patronage of Principal Prof Assa Ram Sharma, by organizing a symposium on the theme “Role of Youth in Strengthening the Democracy”. More than 15 volunteers took part in the symposium. Naman Dogra, Manvi Chaudhary and Abhishek Singh were adjudged as first, second and third. The other participants were acknowledged with consolation prizes.
Red Ribbon Club, GDC for Women Kathua celebrated International Youth Day by launching campaign on HIV/AIDS awareness among the youth. The volunteers presented slogans of various suggestions on the occasion. They took pledge that they would carry the campaign of HIV/AIDS, TB awareness, cleanliness and awareness regarding COVID-19 to every nook and corner of the society.
GDC Thannamandi celebrated International Youth Day by organizing a webinar on the topic “Say No to Drugs”. The students actively participated and expressed their thoughts on the drug abuse. Maheen Fatima (4th semester), Ishrat Javaid (4th semester) and Mobeen Ali Shah (2nd semester) secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.
To mark the occasion, National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare launched first phase of India @75 (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav) campaign across the country. The campaign was launched by Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare from New Delhi. J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS) also attended the launch of first phase virtually with the active involvement from schools, colleges, NYKS, NGOs and staff of JKACS from Jammu and Srinagar.
Apni Party youth president and Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu today greeted the youth of Jammu and Kashmir on the International Youth Day. In a statement issued here, Mattu said, “Our youth have not brought laurels to J&K only but have carved out a niche for themselves in the most difficult circumstances during the last over three decades.” Mattu called on J&K Government to address the grievances of the youth regarding unemployment.
Nations Development Association (NDA) in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan Jammu, International Human Rights Organisation J&K and Bal Shishu Shiksha Kender High School Kaluchak organized a poster-making competition on the theme “Youth Building Peace” to mark the International Youth Day. About 50 youth participated in the poster-making competition.
JKSPYM, an NGO working in the field of Health and Development celebrated International Youth Day with drug addicts. A team of the NGO led by secretary Rakesh Kumar visited drug addicts and made them aware about importance of youth for nation and how they can channelize their energy in positive way.
On the direction of District Development Commissioner Kishtwar (Chairman) Ashok Sharma and under the overall supervision of District Social Welfare Officer (Nodal Officer) Tariq Qazi District level Centre for Women, Mahila Shakti Kendra celebrated International Youth Day at Ashiana Boys Hostel, Kishtwar. On the occasion, Women Welfare Officer Roohie Shamma briefed about the importance of the Day that celebrates the qualities of young people and that recognizes the challenges that today’s youth faces.
