JAMMU, Mar 8: International Women’s Day was observed across Jammu province with zeal and enthusiasm.
Minister for PHE Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma, called for attitudinal change in people’s mindset to protect the rights of women folk in the society so that they could contribute in the socio-economic development of the country without any fear and stress. Speaking at a function organized by the ICDS Project, Akhnoor in connection with International Women’s Day, Minister lauded the role of women in the socio-economic development of the country since the independence of India.
Minister also felicitated prominent women on the occasion besides distributing cutting and tailoring certificates among the girls who underwent training in the trade through Social Welfare Training Centre.
MLA and President State Mahila Congress, Indu Pawar sought complete protection for the women so that they could take part in every field without any fear. Vice Chairman OBC Advisory Board, Kuldeep Verma called for promotion of moral ethics and values in the society.
Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo today emphasized upon women in particular to come forward and work unitedly to secure their rights for socio-economic empowerment. The Minister was addressing an impressive function organised in connection with International Women Day at Government Women College Parade, here today. The function was organized by J&K State Women Development Corporation, in collaboration with Centre for Women Studies, GWC Parade. Minister of State for social welfare Vikar Rasool, besides Principal, GWC, Parade Dr Hemla Aggarwal, staff and large number of students also attended the function.
Vikar Rasool in his address said that the International Women Day reminds society of its duties towards women folk.
Earlier, Managing Director, WDC, Dr Naheed Soz, in her welcome address, said that the activity has immensely contributed towards upliftment of women.
On the occasion of International Women Day, BJP Mahila Morcha leaders and activists under the leadership of their State President Priya Sethi organized a function, which was attended by large number of women drawn from different parts of the province. Over five dozen shawls and other items were distributed among the poor and needy women by Priya Sethi and morcha colleagues. BJP State Secretary, Haleema Begum, District President Parveen Arora, Priya Sethi, Anuradha Charak, Anju Dogra, Sangita Gupta, Sureshta Jamwal, expressed their views and highlighted the plight of the women.
J&K Pradesh Youth Congress observed Women’s Day at Maharaja Hari Singh Park, Chandnagar. PYC activists assembled at the venue and formed a human chain, which links solid chain of the women’s proletarian movement. While speaking Shahnawaz Choudhary, President PYC, Pranav Shagotra, Vice President, Manjeet Singh, Abid Kashmari, general secretaries, Rajvir Singh, secretary and Satish Sharma, Imtaiz Parrey and Aamir Rasool, Lok Sabha presidents said that men without the help of their womenfolk cannot move forward and to leave women behind was to damage their cause and hold it back.
Department of Management Studies, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) organized an interactive seminar on the eve of International Women’s Day on the topic “Personality Development & Women Empowerment”, in which various speakers including faculty and students expressed their views. Vice Chancellor, Prof Irshad A Hamal in his message said that the rural women, who were regarded as voiceless and powerless could identify their inner strength, opportunity for growth, if they are empowered.
Women’s Studies Centre of GGM Science College observed International Women’s Day. The function was presided over by the Principal Dr Satinder Singh, who while speaking acknowledged the role of women in the growth and development of the individual as well as the society.
Government Degree College, Billawar organized a function today to observe International Women’s Day. On the occasion, Dr Nishita, Asstt Surgeon, SDH Billawar was the chief guest while Dr Banwari Lal Gupta, Principal of the college, presided over the function.
Women Development Cell of Government College for Women, Udhampur under the convernorship of Prof Ashni Devi observed International Women Day. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Dr Youdhvir Singh, Principal GCW Udhampur, who along with Prof Suram Chand, HoD Geography, Government PG College (Boys), Udhampur, Prof Ashni Devi, Dr BB Sharma, HoD Sanskrit, Dr Richpal Singh, HoD Urdu, Dr Shalini Sharma, HoD English, Dr Parveen Kumari, HoD Hindi expressed their views in the role of women in the present society.
NSS unit of Government College of Education observed International Women’s Day. A special lecture on rights of women with the special reference to Domestic Violence Act was delivered by Arsh Jot Johal. Prof Koushal Samotra, Principal, highlighted about the need to improve the status of women in present scenario.
A Poster Making Competition was organised by National College of Education, Purkhoo Camp on the eve of International Women’s. KG Gupta, Principal IECS was the chief guest, who while speaking encouraged the audience to come forward to fight for the rights of the women in the male dominated society.
Sacred Heart College of Education observed International Women’s Day. Dr GQ Sheikh was the chief guest, who while speaking described various roles of women. Dr KK Tiwari, Principal highlighted various aspects of women and their role in various parts the society.
International Women’s Day was observed by the Women Cell of Ramist College of Education, Basholi. A symposium was organized on the occasion under the convenership of Madhu Sharma. Arzoo Sharma, Arushi Sharma and Asha Naresh bagged first, second and third positions respectively. Principal JNV Basholi Som Raj Bhagat was the chief guest, who awarded the winners.
Women Cell of Taawish College of Education, Channi Rama observed International Women’s Day by holding a symposium on “Role of Women in the 21st Century”. Pooja Malhotra, Chairperson was the chief guest, while Dr Raj Kumar, Principal was also present. Aanchal shared her views on “Emerging and New roles of women in the 21st Century.
Atman College of Education observed International Women’s Day with Women Empowerment series programme. An Inter College Symposium on “Empowerment of Women in India, Post independence: A reality Check” and Slogan Writing Competitions on Save the girl child, Protect the girl child, Educate the girl child and Empower the girl child were organized. Dr Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Chairman of Board of School Education was the chief guest, while Principal Gurdeep Kaur, ID Soni, Alka Bakshi, Anita Sharma, Dr Shalu Sharma and Dr Ashok Gupta were also present.
Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Kathua observed International Women’s Day. Chairperson, Rajiv Gandhi Group of Colleges was the chief guest, while Dr Sujata Slathia, was guest of honour.
RK Degree College, Vijaypur observed International Women’s Day, in which girls students along with college staff participated. There was a thorough discussion on the recent happening in the capital city of the country and other places.
NSS unit in collaboration with Cultural Committee of KCS College of Education (Women) observed International Women’s Day. On the occasion, a symposium was organized, followed by folk dance, skits and solo dances. Purnima Chaudhri was the chief guest, who along with others including Nitika Sharma, Co-convener of Cultural Committee, Deepti Gupta, Convener, Cultural Committee, Prof Romesh Verma, HoD, MEd Wing threw light on the importance of women in the society.
International Women’s Day was observed at Surya World Institutions of Academic Excellence. The students actively participated in activities like Poster Making and Slogan Writing.
NSS unit of Guru Gang Dev Ji College Of Education, Chhan Arorian organized a rally in Chani village to observe International Women’s Day. Principal Anju Verma flagged off the rally from the college premises for Chani village.
On the eve of International Women’s Day, the NSS unit of Adarsh College of Education organized door-to-door awareness campaign. Students along with faculty members visited the slum areas and made the people aware about gender equality, female infanticide and girl education.
Chenab College of Education, Kaluchack organized Rangoli, Poster Making, Poem Recitation, Flower Decoration, Song, Dance, Skits, Debates and Cooking show to commemorate International Women’s Day.
On the eve of International Women’s Day, NSS unit of NMN College of Education took out a rally to village Sarore. The rally was flagged off by Principal. Volunteers carrying banners and puppet sticks passed through the whole village. Manoj, Upender and Karan Kumar presented a skit on the ills of dowry system and importance of women education.
On the eve of International Women’s Day, a gynecological camp was organized under the aegis of Air Force Wives Welfare Association at Station Medicare Centre, Air Force Station Udhampur. The camp was graced by the President AFWWA (L) Madhu Hirani, who while speaking stressed the need for women power. Senior Consultant, Gynecology, Dr Savita Amla was invited by the AFWWA (L) who examined seventy ladies on all the aspects pertaining to gynecological diseases, infections, their cause, treatment and their prevention. Pap smear of the suspected ladies was also taken.
International Women’s Day was celebrated by Catholic Social Service Society at Maitri Bhawan, Smailpur. The programme began with a rally, which started Kala gate and culminated at Bari Brahmana, in which hundreds of women took part. Swarn Lata Vice-Chairperson, J&K State Advisory and Ashwani Khajuria, Asst. Commissioner Revenue, Samba, were the guest of honour. Fr Justin, Director, CSSS presented the welcome address.
Gandhi Global Family, Youth Wing, today observed International Women’s Day. In this program the Gandhi Global Family honored women activists who have worked in rural areas and propagated the Gandhian philosophy amongst the masses. Those who were honoured included Mrs Waheeda, Jyotsna Kak, Rakhi Chauhan, Meenakshi Jamwal, Sushma Kaul, Sushma Jamwal, Vandana Sharma, Prakriti Sharma, Neelam Jamwal, Sandhya Kachroo, Kailash Sharma.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at Anganwari Workers Training Center, Bathindi, in which anganwadi workers of ICDS project from Kalakote, district Rajouri participated. They highlighted the measures to be taken to eradicate discrimination against the girl child. Raj Nath Bhat, Principal also spokes on the occasion. Cultural programme was also organized.
International Women’s Day was observed by ICDS project, Kishtwar, in which entire field and office staff participated.
As a tribute to womanhood 92.7 BIG Fm observed Women’s Day for its female listeners. Today Women’s Day was celebrated at Hotel 17 miles. Today’s activity was a link of the radio program being run for the last 5 days where BIG FM RJ’s were holding an interactive contest for its listeners. As a result of this contest 10 housewives of Jammu city were selected and were taken for an outing full of fun food and frolic with BIG FM Team at Hotel 17 Miles. Sidharth Arora, State Head 92.7 BIG FM said that this activity was a way of showcasing our gratitude towards the Women.
On the eve of International Women Day, Mahila Adhikar Sangthan organized a Maha Samailan at Kathua in which Zahida Khan, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua was chief guest and Captain Gian Singh, President, People Action cum Welfare Committee and Mohinder Singh, President, Anti Pollution Movement were guest of honour.
HelpAge India today organized an interaction with the students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Nud, Samba and Infants of Old Age Amphalla, on the occasion of International women Day. A group of 60 students led by teacher Rupali and other teachers visited the Old Aged Home, Amphalla, where the students performed cultural programme.
On the eve of International Women’s Day, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organized a multi lingual women’s mushaira at KL Saigal Hall here. The event was presided over by noted writer and former Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Prof Rita Jitendra. The poetesses who recited their poetry included Usha Kiran Kiran, Neelam Kumari, Amarjeet Kour, Prof. Rita Jitendra, Dr. Aruna Sharma, Yogita Yadav, Khalida Parveen, Shameem Akhter, Santosh Nadan, Fozia Mughal and Darakshan Andrabi.
A simple but impressive function was organized by the office of Child Development Project Officer Ramnagar to mark the International Women’s Day. A large number of women, adolescent girls, Anganwari workers and paramedical students of Narsingdev Dev institute Ramnagar participated in the function.
To observe the International Women’s Day and create awareness among women about various welfare schemes besides their rights and legal aspects, Tehsil Legal Services Committee Doda organized a function here today. To mark the International Women Day, Community Food Nutrition Extension unit Jammu organized a programme at village Shama Chak Block Marh in Collaboration with Social Welfare Department, ICDS Marh and Health Education Bureau Directorate of Health Services.

International Women’s Day was observed by Insurance employees under the banner of Northern Zone Insurance Employees Union Association. Convener of the Women Sub Committee of NZIEA Neelam Sharma presided over the function, whereas, the stage was organised by Alkiya Sharma.
A high power workshop was organised by Salal Power Station to observe International Women’s Day. The workshop was inaugurated by Chander Mohan, who while speaking threw light on the importance of women in the society.
