JAMMU, Mar 9: International Women’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal.
To mark the celebrations of International Women’s Day, a portrait of Padambhushan Tarabai Modak, a pioneer educationist in the field of preschool education was unveiled by Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu at the Department of Home Science in the presence of Prof Rajni Dhingra, DRS, Prof Jasbir Singh, Controller of Examination, Prof Neeru Sharma, Department of Home Science, Prof Sundeep Pandita, Director, UGC- HRDC, Prof Samridhi Arora, Head of the Department, Prof Shashi Manhas and Dr Sarika Manhas, Ranjeet Kalra, teaching faculty, UGC- HRDC, research scholars, non- teaching staff, and students of the Department of Home Science.
Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) celebrated International Women’s Day under the themes “Gender Equity’ and “Gender equality for sustainable tomorrow” and celebrations were held at both its Awantipora and Charar-i-Sharief campuses. The event comprised of many activities and seminars which were attended by number of academicians, students, and social activists. At IUST, Vice Chancellor, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, who was the chief guest while addressing the gathering, deliberated upon the issue of unavailability of data to access the gender equality situation in J&K. Prof Manzoor Ahmad Malik, Dean Academic Affairs, Registrar IUST Prof Naseer Iqbal, Mantasha Binti Rashid and Chairperson Averros Centre of Philosophy IUST, Prof Lily Want also expressed their views. At IUST’s Alamdar College of Nursing and Medical Technology, Charar-i-Sharief, Principal AMCON & MT and organizing chairperson of the program Prof (Dr) Mehmooda Regu, discussed the importance of gender equality for sustainable future.
To commemorate International Women’s Day, Smt Shanti Gupta Centre for Women’s Studies (SSGCWS) organised a “Sharing of Experiences” event. Kritika Khanna, India’s first female Bronze Medallist Para Rower was invited to be part of the event and share momentous experiences of her life with the audience. Dr Renu Gupta, Chairperson MIER chaired the session. Dr Adit Gupta, Principal and Director MIER, Rupa Gupta, Joint Director and Director SSGCWS, HoDs and Deputy HoDs of various departments of the college along with the students and faculty attended the session. The programme began with a song sung by MIER Raag Group highlighting different roles of women at home and in society. It was followed by the documentary highlighting different activities of the centre. A captivating skit on the theme of “Nari Shakti” was presented by the students. The students also participated in photography, painting, and sketching competition on the theme “Different Shades of Women”. As a token of appreciation and gratitude Kritika Khanna was awarded with Smt Shanti Gupta Women Achiever’s Award.
GDC Kunjwani in collaboration with IQAC organized three-day workshop to celebrate International Women’s Day. Principal of college Prof Hans Raj in his inaugural address spoke on the role of women in the society and steps needed to be taken for their further emancipation. Various events were organised during three-day workshop. The first session was conducted by Madhu Bandral Deputy CO IRP 15thBattalion who highlighted about the struggle faced by women at home and at workplace. The second session was conducted by Sunita Kumari Assistant Prof Department of English GGM Science College. The third session was conducted by Dr Anju Bala Associate Professor Department of English GCW Parade.
Government Degree College Nagrota celebrated International Women Day in its premises by organizing two days workshop. The theme of the workshop was “Breaking the Bias”. Various events were organised for the students. Celebrations also included a very informative talk by the resource person Dr Pallavi Sharma on health of young girls. Dr Nalini Pathania, Principal GDC Nagrota addressed the students and highlighted the role of women in shaping the society and in building a strong nation.
Under the guidance of Principal Dr Romesh Kumar Gupta the two days discussion-cum-workshop on Women Empowerment by the Literary Club of the college in collaboration with the NSS unit at Government Degree College Kalakote had a ceremonial closing. On the concluding day of the Workshop, the discussions were based on the topic “Initiatives taken by the Government for Women Empowerment” in India.
Dogra College of Education in collaboration with Department of Life-Long Learning, University of Jammu organized an extension lecture on the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” on the occasion of International Women’s Day, wherein, 80 students and faculty were present on the occasion. Dr Vikesh Kumar Sharma, Principal Dogra College of Education, faculty members and teacher trainees of Semesters I and III were also present.
Doon International School Jammu organised a special program on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Kamal Sisodiya, Commandant CRPF, was invited as the special guest. GN Tantray, Chairman of the school, Mushtaq Ahmed Tantray, Vice- Chairman and Dr Vikesh Kaur, Principal were the guests of honour.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Mridhu Padha Vice Principal of St Xavier Convent Senior Secondary School Barnai received Award of Honour for her incredible work for society from International Human Rights and Anti Crime Organization.
NABARD, Jammu Regional Office celebrated International Women’s Day at district Samba. Yasha Mudgal, Secretary Cooperative Department, Jammu was chief guest, while Dr Ajay Kumar Sood, Chief General Manager, NABARD, UT of J&K, Dr Parul Jasrotia, President, WICCI Rural Tourism Council and Swarna Bhagat, Chairperson Women Credit Cooperative Limited were special guests on the occasion. To commemorate this day, NABARD sponsored women Self Help Groups (SHGs), Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), Farmers Producers Organisation (FPO) members, successful women farmers, women entrepreneurs and social workers were invited for felicitation and sharing their experiences. Products manufactured by members of SHGs and FPOs promoted by NABARD were also put up for display in stalls. In the end, Anamika, DGM, NABARD presented vote of thanks.
“Women have evolved, and are beginning to recognize their resilience and the impact that comes with it,” Director SCERT, J&K, Prof Veena Pandita, said on the celebratory function of the International Women’s Day at Srinagar. The Cultural Wing of the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT), J&K, organized the event. Multiple speakers expressed their support to the cause of women’s equality in a ‘male-dominated’ set up and vowed to add their voices to free them from the ‘invisible shackles of dominance’. Mohammad Sultan Khan, HOI, SCERT, Dr Shabnam, HOD, Education in Languages, Nodal Officer, School Leadership Academy (SLA), Dr Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, Academic Officer, Dr Jan Mudassar Gul and many others expressed their views on the occasion.
To highlight the role of women in the society, a programme on the occasion of International Women’s Day was organised by JKAP-4th Battalion Security Jammu at Battalion Headquarters under the chairmanship of Ashok Kumar Sharma, Commandant of the Battalion. Women officials of the battalion expressed their views on the occasion. The programme was attended by Chanderjeet Singh SP, Mohammad Aijaz Batt DySP, Inspector Kewal Krishen Sharma and Inspector Shashi Kant Raina.
Udhampur Judicial Employees celebrated International Women’s Day at District Court Complex in which a large number of serving and retired women officers and Bar members participated. The programme was held under the chairmanship of DLSA Secretary Sub Judge Rajni Sharma. Sub Judge Special Mobile Magistrate Preet Simran Kour, Munsiff Malika Sharma, Senior Retd Administrative Officer, Raksha Slathia, Sudershana Sharma, SO, Shehnaz Kosar and a large number of judicial employees graced the occasion.
Dulhasti Power Station celebrated International Women’s Day. NHPC’s WIPs (Women in Power Sector) Cell organized a two day workshop for NHPC women employees across all locations to honour International Women’s Day through live web casting. The workshop was inaugurated by chief guest, Alka Tiwari, Secretary, National Commission for Scheduled Tribe (NCST) and AK Singh, CMD NHPC at Corporate Office, Faridabad. Rajan Jairath, General Manager (In-Charge) Dulhasti Power Station also joined the inaugural ceremony online.
