JAMMU, Mar 8: International Women’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal.
In recognition of their efforts, the J&K Government felicitated four women entrepreneurs sponsored by the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) on the occasion of International Women’s day. The event was organised by J&K Government’s ‘Mission Youth’ and was presided over by the Lt Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha, through virtual mode. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole presented the entrepreneurs with a memento in the presence of CEO, Mission Youth, Syed Abid Rashid Shah and Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary at Srinagar’s Government College for Women. The awardees are Anam Siraj, a fashion designer and owner of Closet Cloud, Tamana Imran, proprietor of Dress Code, Sumaira Durrani, owner of a beauty salon and Farhana Zargar, proprietor of Ocean Holidays. In a separate event, the Centre for Women Entrepreneurship, Jammu, organised a webinar on women entrepreneurs’ challenges and ways forward. The webinar was presided over by Director JKEDI Director JKEDI, G M Dar.
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar in collaboration with Directorate of School Education, Kashmir organized a programme to observe the International Women’s Day at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothibagh here. Judge, J&K High Court, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey was the chief guest on the occasion. Among others present were Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Abdul Rashid Malik, Director School Education, Kashmir Mohammad Younis Malik, Principal Magistrate, Juvenile Justice Board Srinagar, Tabasum Qadir Parray, Secretary, DLSA, Srinagar, Adnan Sayeed, CEO, Srinagar, Dy CEO Srinagar Principal Kothibagh GGHSS, Principal, GGHSS, Nawakadal, Faculty Members and Students. Director School Education, Kashmir, Mohammad Younus Malik, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Abdul Rashid Malik and Principal GGHSS Kothibagh were also present on the occasion. The students also presented a skit to highlight the changing roles of a woman in a family and the challenges she is facing.

Underlining the role and importance of women in the changing world especially during the COVID pandemic, Prof Manoj K Dhar, the Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu said that while COVID has played havoc on all sections of the society and women have been its worst hit, there is urgent need to bring to light the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from COVID-19 pandemic. Prof Dhar was speaking at the inaugural function of a one day National Webinar titled “Gender and Evolution of Women in 21st Century”  organised by the Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu in collaboration with Coordination Cell, Higher Education Department, J&K. Meanwhile, The Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu organized an Awareness lecture on the theme “Women Empowerment: A Tool to Overcome Gender Inequality” for the Community Women of Village Trilokpur, Gol Gujral, Jammu on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2021.
University of Kashmir organised several events, including a seminar and a webinar, to celebrate the International Women’s Day. At an impressive ceremony in VC Secretariat, Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad unveiled a poster of an awareness campaign on women’s health and hygiene. The day-long awareness campaign was organised by the Centre for Women’s Studies and Research (CWSR). Department of Social Work (DoSW) also organised a day-long seminar titled “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a Covid-19 World” to mark the International Women’s Day. Expert team from Foundation of Sports Learning and Development (FSLD) acquainted women participants with different self-defense techniques. To mark the International Women’s Day, the Media Education Research Centre (MERC) organized a webinar where the invited speakers discussed the role of women in media.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu organized Online Essay Writing Competition on the topic “Most Inspirational Female Fictional Character in Literature” under the patronship of Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Bhupinder Singh. The winners of the competition were Hiteshi Taggar, Semester III, English Honours, GCW Gandhi Nagar who bagged 1st prize, second prize was bagged by Manya Jain, Semester V, English Honours, GCW Gandhi Nagar and Kritika Sambyal, Semester VII, PGI English Honours, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts in a tie, the third prize went to Ambika Sharma, Semester I, English Honours, GCW Gandhi Nagar. The consolation prize went to Shivya Gupta, Semester I, and Nikita Sharma, Semester III, both from PGI English Honours, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts.
One day workshop on ‘Gender Equality: Theory & Praxis’ was organized by the School of Languages and Literature, Shri Mata Vasihno Devi University, Katra, on International Women’s Day. Prof VK Bhat, Dean, Humanities and Social Sciences, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Coordinator of the workshop was Dr. Isha Malhotra. The School also conducted a webinar on the topic “Gender Sensitization and prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace”.
Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir Prof Talat Ahmad Monday flagged off a contingent of girl students for a snow skiing course in Gulmarg. The flag-off ceremony was organised by the varsity’s Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES)—the organiser of the two-week course—to mark the International Women’s Day. KU Registrar Dr Nisar Ahmad, Coordinator DPES Dr Nisar Ahmad, Nadeem Ahmad Dar, Assistant Director DPES and other officials of the Directorate were present on the occasion. Surjeet Kour Sports Assistant will be accompanying the contingent to Gulmarg as the team manager.
A poster-making competition in connection with International Women’s Day was organized by the Department of Applied Art, IMFA, University of Jammu at the campus of IMFA at Talab Tilo, Poonch House, Jammu. The theme of the competition was “Celebrating International Women’s Day, 2021″. Several students of IMFA participated in the competition. On the occasion, Prof Satnam Kaur, Principal IMFA was also present.

Prof. Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor BGSBU in his message said that the purpose of celebrating this day is to promote peace with women’s rights. Women Studies Cell of Government PG College Rajouri celebrated International Women’s Day by organizing a seminar on the theme “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 World”. Haleema Sabia won first position whereas Zarifa Kouser and Humera Kosser stood second and third respectively.
International Women’s Day was celebrated by IQAC of Government SPMR College of Commerce, Canal Road, Jammu by organizing various functions. Two teams were created of NCC cadets and NSS volunteers for the game of Tug of War. Principal of the College, Prof. RS Jamwal, spoke on the occasion.

International Women’s Day was celebrated by Government Degree College Darhal in which a symposium on the theme “Gender Equality and Economic Development” was organized. Mohammad Arif, Sadia Iram and Raffaqat Kosser were adjudged first, second and third respectively.
Red Ribbon Club of GDC Sunderbani celebrated the International Women’s Day by organizing a symposium on the topic “Choose to Challenge”. Prerena Sharma, the student of first semester stood first, the second position was secured by Supriya Sharma the student was fifth semester and the third position was jointly shared by Priyanka Bhogia the student of first semester and Priya the student of first semester.
Women Empowerment Committee of GDC Mahanpur celebrated International Women’s Day under the guidance of Principal of college Dr RK Koul. The occasion was graced by Maleeka Sharma Civil Judge Mahanpur as the chief guest.
GDC Ramkote celebrated International Women’ Day on the theme “Choose to Challenge”. The program was presided over by the Principal of the College, Dr Ashu Vashisht. Apart from cultural presentations, students expressed their views on the significance of the day.
A program was organized to celebrate International Women’s Day by the Sexual Harassment Cell in collaboration with the Women Empowerment Cell of GDC Poonch. Ramesh Angral SSP Poonch was the chief guest whereas the Principal of the college Prof MH Shah presided over the function. A large no of students presented their views on the topic “Rights of women: Guarantees and Realities”. Rukshana Koser of Semester 3rd stood Ist followed by Farzana and Touseef Tantray of Semester 3rd who fetched 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
Talent hunt and Interactive session cum Intra-College Competitions were held at GDC Marh in connection with Women’s Day celebrations. Interactive cum Counselling Session was conducted by RJ Juhie Mohan from 92.7 FM.
GGM Science College NSS Unit under the patronage of Principal Dr Ravender Tickoo and guidance of NSS PO Dr Deepali Mahajan celebrated International Women’s Day on the theme Choose to Challenge. NSS volunteers wrote slogans and made posters to create awareness that a “challenged world is an alert world. Meanwhile, Women’s Studies Centre GGM Science College, Jammu also celebrated International Women’s Day.
Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar organised an event on the eve of International Women’s Day. On the occasion, Prof (Dr) Abha Chauhan, Head of Department of Sociology, University of Jammu was the key resource person. Principal of the College Prof Minnie Sharma also addressed the gathering.
International Women’s Day was celebrated by GDC Vijaypur. On the Commemoration of celebration of International Women’s Day, the Internal Complaint Committee of GDC Sidhra organized an online lecture on the theme “Gender Justice: Safety At Public Space for women” under the guidance of Principal Dr Monika Sharma. The resource person for the lecture was Dr Savita Nayar, Associate Professor, Department of Law, University of Jammu.
Department of Sociology, GDC Khour organized One Day Online Webinar to celebrate International Women’s Day. The chief guest of the programme, Prof Hans Raj, Principal GDC Khour inaugurated the webinar. The key resource persons for the webinar were Advocate Meenu Padha, President, National Child and Women Development Council (J&K) and Founder, Masti ki Pathshala and Dr Shveta Sharma, Assistant Professor Department of Social Work, University of Himachal Pradesh.
Women Development Cell of Government Degree College Nagrota celebrated International Women’s Day. Guest of honour for the programme was Prof Shallu Gupta, Assistant Professor in Computer Application in GDC Marh. Dr Attar Singh Kotwal, Principal of the College was also present.

GDC Nowshera organized series of activities to celebrate International Women’s Day. A symposium on the theme “Women Empowerment” was organized in the College premises under the chairmanship of College Principal Dr Surinder Kumar Sharma. The College authorities also organized a community awareness programme at Government Middle School, Darshan Nagar, Nowshera.
NSS Unit of GDC Bani organized an online quiz competition on “Women Empowerment” to commemorate the International Women’s Day. The competition was held under the guidance of College Principal Dr MS Pathania.74 students qualified the contest and were awarded with E-Certificates.
GDC Bishnah organized a poster making competition to celebrate International Women’s Day. Vishesh Sharma of Semester-I secured Ist position, Anmol Sharma from Semester-IIIrd secured second position and Mukti Sharma of Semester-I secured IIIrd position. Dr Anuradha Pandoh, Principal of the college was also present.
International Women’s Day was today celebrated at GCET Jammu. Dr Sameru Sharma, Principal, GCET, Jammu threw light on the significance of the day. Various staff members participated in creative and colorful activities and showcased their talent.

Govt. General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College Reasi celebrated International Women’s Day. Online quiz was organized by the members of Committee Against Sexual Harrassment (CASH). E-certificates shall also be issued to the students who participated in the quiz.
Government Degree College Ukhral celebrated International Women’s Day. The programme was chaired by the Principal, Dr. Ranvijay Singh who highlighted the achievements of many women in different fields of contemporary times.
NSS and NCC Units of GDC RS Pura celebrated the day under the guidance of Principal Dr GS Rakwal and supervision of Prof Bindu Kumar, NSS Programme Officer and Dr Chetan Sharma, ANO NCC Wing. On the occasion, NSS and NCC cadets shared their views by reciting poems and delivering speeches.
Five days conference “Matho-Mania” resonated well with the celebration of Women’s Day’ concluded. Today’s event was a part of series of events being organised by Government PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu in collaboration with J&K Science Technology and Innovation Council Department of Science and Technology. On the eve of International Women’s day, the NSS unit of KC College of Education conducted on-line essay writing competition on the topic “Role of Women during COVID-19”. Dr. Sanjay Tickoo, Principal of the college was also present. The best three entries were by Dolly Kanojia from MIER College of Education, Rashmi Salathia and Taniya from Sacred Heart College of Education and MIER College of Education respectively and Dolly Anthal from Sacred Heart College of Education. Certificates of participation were awarded to all the participants.
To commemorate the International Women’s Day, the Smt Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies (SSGCWS) organized a program “Sharing of Experiences” in which Tanya Dev Gupta, a renowned singer and artist was the resource person. Dr Renu Gupta, Chairperson MIER chaired the session. Dr Adit Gupta, Principal and Director MIER, Rupa Gupta, Joint Director and Director CWS, Ruchika Gupta, Joint Director MIET, HoDs and Deputy HoDs of various departments of the college along with the students and faculty attended the session.

On the eve of Women’s Day, Jammu Tawi Golf Course (JTGC), Sidhra in association with Directorate of Tourism Jammu organized “Women Putting Competition”. Large number of women players participated in the competition. Nirja Koul Moza displayed some great skills and lifted the trophy while Shabnum Ara was the runner-up. Third place was clinched by Rajni Sinha. Abdul Gani Mir was the chief guest on the occasion, while Secretary, Jammu Tawi Golf Course, Manav Gupta, National Golf Academy of India (NGAI) certified Professional Coach Rohit Gupta and several sports lovers were present on the occasion.
Women Battalion (IRP-15th) celebrated International Women’s Day at the Battalion Headquarters, Gulshan Ground, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The day long celebrations included lectures by various academicians, medicos and psychologists highlighting the importance of International Women’s Day, presentation of a colorful cultural programme, medical camp and various stalls for shopping. Danesh Rana, IGP Armed/IRP Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion. Earlier, Commandant IR-15th Bn, Mubassir Latifi welcomed the chief guest and other invitees. Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) has honored Women Achievers of Jammu and Kashmir with ‘ASSOCHAM Northern Power: J&K Women Achievers-2021’ for their excellence in their professional fields, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The event was organized by ASSOCHAM J&K Council in partnership with Batra Group and Packaging Design Industries at Hotel Radisson Blu Jammu. Binoo Joshi, in recognition of her significant professional Achievements in Journalism, Gunjan Rana for Retail and Management, Sapna Rohmetra (Director MMI School Jammu) for Innovation in Education, Suvidha Jain for Manufacturing and Export and Shwetima Jamwal for Media were honoured with ASSOCHAM Northern Power: J&K Women Achievers-2021. The achievers were honored by Manik Batra, Chairmam ASSOCHAM J&K Council and Co-Chairman, Dr. M A Alim.
Department of Agriculture celebrated International Women’s Day. Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal inaugurated the function at Agriculture Complex Lalmandi Srinagar. Joint Director Agriculture Inputs/Marketing/PHM Amir ud Din Andrabi, Joint Director Seeds, Pesticides and Fertilizers Mohammad Iqbal Khan, Asifa Nabi Apiculture Development Officer Srinagar, Mushroom Research Officer Farzana Tabasum, Nazia Ashraf, Qazi Gowher and other women participants expressed their views.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, troops of 4 Rashtriya Rifles organised a free medical cum awareness camp specifically for women at inaccessible Katyara Panchayat of Bhadarwah.
Jammu and Kashmir Bank celebrated International Women’s Day at its Corporate Headquarters. The bank’s Chairman and Managing Director R K Chhibber was the chief guest. The bank’s top management was also present on the occasion. Vice-President Tabassum Nazir and Vice-President Manju Gupta were also present. Meanwhile Women’s Day celebrations were also held in Jammu at Zonal Office Central I with Zonal Head/Vice-President Shareesh Sharma as the chief guest on the occasion.
NABARD District Office Rajouri and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Rajouri jointly celebrated International Women Day in Rajouri. Dr. Arvind Isher, Incharge KVK-Rajouri, Kanav Sharma, DDM NABARD were among others present on the occasion.
J&K Legal Service Authority, District Legal Services Authority, Jammu in collaboration with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Jammu Region celebrated International Women’s Day in the premises of Kendriya Vidyalaya GC CRPF Bantalab Jammu. VK Singh, Director General of Police, Prisons, J&K was the chief guest while Dr D Manjunath, Deputy Commissioner, KVS Jammu Region was the guest of honour. Vijaya Singh wife of VK Singh was special invitee to present mementoes. Sanjeev Gupta, Principal (District and Session) Judge and Chairman, DLSA Jammu, Bala Jyoti, HJS (D&L Judge) Judicial Member, J&K Special Tribunal and Rajinder Prasad, Deputy Inspector General, GC CRPF Bantalab were the special guests. District Administration Ramban observed International Women’s Day. A special programme under the aegis of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” a flagship programme of the central government was organized by the ICDS to mark the occasion. DC Ramban, Mussarat Islam, SSP Hasseb-ur-Rahman, various other senior officers besides students, faculty members from GDC Ramban and various other educational institutions attended the function.
International Women’s Day was celebrated by Jammu Police at Women’s Police Station. SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil accompanied by other police officers celebrated the day with police officials of Women Cell Jammu and public. Shruti Uppal Incharge One Stop Center Jammu was the guest speaker on the occasion. SP City North PD Nitya, two lady officials of Women Police Station and DySP Headquarters Swati Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu by Medical Superintendent Dr Vandana Dogra under the guidance of Director AYUSH J&K, UT, Dr. Mohan Singh who also presided over the function as chief guest. Dr Shashi Gupta Ex- Principal GMC Jammu alongwith Dr Swarnkanta Padha retired Medical Officer Ayurveda were guests of honor.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba, celebrated “International Women Day” under the leadership of Professor JP Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and the aegis of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-J. 60 women of the different villages of district Samba were actively participated in the programme. The chief guest of the programme was Rachna Sharma Additional Deputy Commissioner, Samba.
District Legal Services Authority Kathua organised awareness programme on women’s rights to mark International Women’s Day. Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Kathua Aarti Mohan, presided over the event held at Government Degree College. On the occasion, Principal of the College, Asha Ram Sharma, Coordinator Women Centre Dr Rachana, students and staff members of College and Para Legal Volunteers of DLSA Kathua were present. Besides, Tehsil Legal Services Committee Hiranagar also organized a programme on “International Women’s Day” at Government Girls High School Hiranagar in collaboration with the Education Department. Similarly, at Basohli, the programme was held at Village Bhoond. Likewise Tehsil Legal Service Committee Bani also organized a programme on “International Women’s Day” at Village Gatti Bani. At Billawar, a programme was held at Government Middle School Dadwara with the collaboration of Education Department Billawar and At Mahanpur, Tehsil Legal Services Committee also organized a programme at GDC Mahanpur.
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bhaderwah organized a function to celebrate International Women’s Day here at District Court Complex. The function was presided over by the Chairman DLSA, Principal and Session Judge, Bhaderwah, Ashok Kumar Shavan. Sub Judge Bhaderwah Reenu Dogra Gupta, Munsiff Sandeep Sen, Member Secretary DLSA Susheel Singh and Mobile Magistrate Munish Manhas were among others present on the occasion.
American Oncology Institute at ASCOMS Hospital, Sidhra, Jammu organized an event to celebrate International Women’s Day and launch of AOI’s flagship Program “NYLA” aimed at early detection and treatment of Cancers in women. The event was attended by the Cancer survivors and women high achievers of Jammu region as dignitaries for International Women’s Day. The event was inaugurated by Babila Rakwal, Dr Shashi Sudhan, Neeru Batra, Dr Ravinder Madaan, Dr Surbhi Kudyar and other women high-achievers of Jammu. On this occasion Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, ASCOMS Hospital was also present.
ICDS Project RS Pura under the auspices of Directorate ICDS, J&K hosted “Poshan Mahotsav” under Poshan Abhiyaan and International Women’s Day. The event unfolded with the inauguration of Bio Wall/Vertical Garden, followed by another unique initiative to reach out to the community by establishment of Poshan Helpline (01923293823), being started on a pilot basis for a period of 15 days for redressing the issues concerning Poshan (Nutrition). During the event, AWWs showcased various stalls.
NABARD, Jammu Regional Office celebrated International Women’s Day. Udhampur Judicial Employees celebrated International Women’s Day at District Court Complex in which a large number of serving and retired women’s and Bar members participated. As part of the celebration of International Women’s Day, a day-long sports event for women was organised by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at its Sports Complex, Katra. Nearly 250 participants comprising female staff of the Shrine Board and students of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing, Kakryal took part in various sports events. Dr. Ashok Bhan, Member Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Council of Shrine Board’s Sports Complex, was the chief guest, who gave away prizes to the winners of various sports competitions at the valedictory function. Earlier, Ramesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board presented the welcome address.
Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (UMEED) organised a divisional-level programme to celebrate International Women’s Day in Bishnah area of Jammu district. On the occasion, a mega exhibition “Hastkala” was held where Self Help Groups (SHGs) from different parts of Jammu region attended the programme and showcased their handicrafts. The theme of the divisional level programme was “Mahila Udayam Mahila Sashaktikaran”. Rubina Kausar, Mission Director and Sham Lal Dy. Director JKRLM UMEED was the chief guest on the occasion.
In an outstanding and unique display of woman power, NHPC Limited deputed an all-women team led by Manisha Shrivastava, General Manager (Electrical) to operate its 300 MW Chamera-II Power Station located in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh on occasion of International Women’s Day. NHPC also deputed Ms. Savitri Srivastav, Executive Director (IT&C) to head its Regional Office at Chandigarh on International Women’s Day. A special interactive session between AK Singh, CMD, NHPC and all NHPC women employees was also held via video conference at NHPC Corporate Office, Faridabad on the occasion.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at BWWA Community Hall, Paloura Camp Jammu under the Aegis of Rajni Jamwal, BSF Wives Welfare Association, President, FTR HQ Jammu with zeal and enthusiasm. All Women’s residing in BSF campus participated in this programme whole heartedly. The Day was celebrated by organizing cultural programme, Poetry competition, Quiz competition and Ramp walk. The winners were distributed prizes by Rajni Jamwal, BWWA, President, Jammu Frontier. On this occasion, BSF lady doctors and female paramedical staff were also given special recognition and felicitated for working round the clock during COVID-19 pandemic.
