JAMMU, Mar 8: Different organisations here today celebrated International Women’s Day and organised different programmes in this regard.
Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Sheetal Nanda chaired celebration of International Women’s Day programme organized by Mission Shakti Department of Social Welfare. During the programme, various eminent women who have done excellent work in different spheres of life were felicitated by the Mission Shakti. Speaking on the occasion, Sheetal Nanda said that violence against women has consistently being rising not only in our country but throughout the world which is an alarming situation. She emphasized on massive awareness regarding gender equality and rights of the women.

Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission, UMEED celebrated International Women’s Day. Mission Director JKRLM, Indu Kanwal Chib; Additional Mission Director JKRLM Jammu, Mridhu Slathia; Director Social Audit, Shafia Naqashbandi, women from several Self Help Groups (SHGs) and others participated in the event. The event witnessed a session in which members from different SHGs of Jammu division shared their stories.
On International Women’s Day, Central University of Jammu (CUJ) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain said that he believe that the theme ‘DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’ along with technological integration will surely lead to Gender Equality across all spectrums. Dr. Shweta Yadav, Faculty, Department of Environmental Sciences, CUJ was felicitated for achieving INYAS membership-2023.
Acknowledging the contribution of women in agriculture sector, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kishtwar SKUAST Jammu celebrated International Women’s Day by organising a training-cum-seed-distribution programme for 30 women of village Shanderi, Block and Tehsil Drabshalla. The programme was organized by Dr. Narinder Paul I/C KVK Kishtwar under the guidance of Dr. S.K Gupta, Director Extension SKUAST Jammu.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at North Kashmir University, Delina by district administration. The Uplona Rashtriya Rifles Battalion under the aegis of Haiderbaeg Sector Kilo (K) Force in collaboration with District administration Baramulla organised a programme on theme ‘Nayi Soch’.
On International Women’s Day Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir (KU), Prof. Nilofer Khan flagged off a rally. She said such programmes reinforce our institutional commitment to create a congenial work atmosphere in the campus and also reiterated the message of ‘zero tolerance policy’ for sexual harassment at workplace.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan also chaired a function as chief guest in Department of Education at KU to celebrate the Day by raising awareness on importance of gender equality in fast-changing world. In her special keynote address on the theme of 2023 International Women’s Day, Prof. Reenu Nanda, Dean Faculty of Education, Jammu University, said an inspiring example of women’s empowerment is KU’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan who stands before us by dint of her hard work and success.
The Islamic University of Science and Technology celebrated International Women’s Day, which witnessed wide participation of students, scholars, faculty and staff. The function was presided over by Prof. Shakil Ahmed Romshoo, Vice-Chancellor, IUST who talked about the importance of this Day.
University of Ladakh, Leh Campus in collaboration with GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment Ladakh, Region Centre Leh celebrated International Women’s Day. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Subrat Sharma, LRC, NIHE threw light on the importance of the Day. P.D Nitya, Senior Superintendent of Police, Leh talked about women rights regarding the abuses under the mask of anonymity.
Government Medical College Jammu celebrated International Women’s Day in collaboration with NGO ‘Support & National Human Rights Social Justice Council of India.’ Principal and Dean Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma while speaking on the occasion said: “We are very proud of our women doctors, staff and paramedical staff for their accomplishments and their efforts to serve the nation and humanity in the field of health care services.”
Centre for Women Studies, GCW Parade in collaboration with Department of English celebrated International Women’s Day. Various events like discussion, short film/documentary show, poster making etc were organized on the theme ‘DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’.
Department of Political Science in collaboration with IQAC of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government P.G College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu organized a ‘Moot Court Trial Activity’ on International Women’s Day. Dr. Pooja Charak, HoD Political Science highlighted the importance of Moot Court activity. Moot Court cases were held under the patronage of College Principal, Prof. Minu Mahajan. She motivated participants to showcase their talent, skills, confidence and creative vision by initiating their court proceedings in an organized manner.
NSS unit of Govt. SPMR College of Commerce in collaboration with Global Peace Organization under the aegis of G20 organised a seminar and Rangoli Making Competition on the theme ‘DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’ to celebrate International Women’s Day with enthusiasm and zeal. Dr. Monika Malhotra, Convener IQAC and Literary Club said that woman is the foundation of every society. Principal Dr. Surinder Kumar Sharma, while speaking on the occasion said that women should be respected and given their due for the prosperous society.
Women’s Studies Centre of GGM Science College celebrated International Women’s Day on the theme ‘Digital All: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’. The event was conducted under the patronage of Prof. Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the College.
Women Development Cell in collaboration with Department of Sociology at Govt. Degree College Paloura (Mishriwala) celebrated International Women’s Day by organising a lecture. The resource person was Prof. Pooja Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology and she informed the students that international days are occasions to educate the public on the issues of concern to mobilise political will and resources to address global problems and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity.
NSS Unit in collaboration with IQAC Cell of GCW Bhagwati Nagar celebrated International Women’s Day. The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’ The college hosted a variety of cultural programmes and a seminar on ‘Women Empowerment’ and also showcased a documentary ‘Ladies First’ depicting women’s struggle in the field of sports which was coordinated by Dr. Preeti Salathia.
Om Women’s Day, an awareness rally and door-to-door campaign confronting different women issues was organised by the students of K.C College of Education in the nearby locality. The students threw light on different issues regarding women which included health & hygiene, literacy, female foeticide and domestic violence.
NSS Unit of National College of Education Purkhoo Camp celebrated International Women’s Day under the supervision of Programme Officer, Yashumati Jamwal. Pallavi Verma, Sarpanch Mishriwala was chief guest. Principal Dr. Manju Dwivedi expressed her views about the significance of the day and said that women are playing significant roles in different spheres like medical, engineering etc all over the world.
Government Degree College Sidhra celebrated International Women’s Day and the chief guest was Shama Akhter, Councillor of Jammu Municipal Corporation. Prof. Shonima Malhotra, Coordinator G20 Committee talked on significance of the Day while the chief guest, Shama Akhter elaborated that a strong, comprehensive and balanced growth chart will be elevated only by the participation of women in not only the economy but also by empowering them to voice their ideas in major decision undertakings.
NSS Unit of GDC Marheen celebrated International Women’s Day under G-20 Summit 2023. The programme in this regard was organized under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Anupama Gupta and she highlighted the contribution of women in the digital world and raised awareness on challenges women face.
Govt. Degree College Akhnoor celebrated International Women’s Day with zeal and fanfare under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Romilla Malla Bhat, Principal GDC Akhnoor who along with other dignitaries planted saplings in the College campus. The Principal highlighted the role of women in every sector of the society and talked on the importance of women in nation building.
NSS volunteers of GDC Khour celebrated International Women’s Day in collaboration with Health & Wellness Centre Mattu and organised an awareness drive on ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account Cards) among the women of village Mattu. Dr. Deepti Dogra, MLHP, Sharda, FMPHW and Asha Worker, Suman Choudhary from Health and Wellness Center, Mattu participated in the drive.
Sai Shyam College of Education and School celebrated International Women’s Day by organising a function which was attended by staff and students of the Institution. Deepika Sen, Sr. Advocate, High Court Jammu was the chief resource person and Rajinder Singh Chib, BJP leader was special guest. Dr. Usha Tickoo, Principal of the College threw light on importance of educating girl child and making her independent.

J&K Girls 2nd Bn. NCC, Jammu of GDC R.S Pura celebrated International Women’s Day under the supervision of Lt. Shaveta Chowdhary ANO, Girls NCC. Rita Kumari from Tehsil Legal Services R.S Pura created awareness regarding women issues in India and also emphasized on the importance of women rights as a crucial instrument for egalitarian society in India.

Police Technical Training Institute Vijaypur celebrated International Women’s Day. Speaking on the occasion, Shiv Kumar, SSP, Principal PTTI Vijaypur highlighted the importance and history behind the celebration of International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day was also celebrated by Jammu Police at Police Station Women Cell wherein Dy.SP Hqrs Dr. Sunniya Wani, SHO P/S Women Cell Inspector Arti Thakur and other police officials were present. Special efforts were taken for sensitization of the public towards women related issues by giving numbers on every Thana vehicle in Pink Colour 1091 and 181 by distributing pamphlets among them.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at IRP 15th (Ladies) Battalion, Gulshan Ground, Jammu. The day long celebrations included debate, presentation of colourful cultural programme by J&K Police Cultural Team and singing by officers etc. Nisha Nathyal, DIG Armed/IRP Jammu Range was chief guest.
Udhampur Police organised a programme at DPL Udhampur in which DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range, Suleman Choudhary was chief guest. Speaking on the occasion the chief guest said that Police is incomplete without remembering the contribution of J&K Women cops. He said that women are endowed with special traits which make them much more capable than men.
The Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development, Srinagar organized a special lecture to highlight the issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights and violence and abuse against women. Dr. Jahan Ara Jabeen, Director Trainings of the Institute, Kashmir emphasized that it is necessary for young girls and women to break all the shackles impeding their progress and prosperity.
On International Women’s Day, Voice for Peace and Justice organised a colourful function at Ganderbal. The function was presided over by the chairperson Voice for Peace and Justice and a renowned social activist, Farooq Ganderbali, while Bilquees Mir, a water sports sensation and International Coach was chief guest. Saima Ahad, a recent JKAS qualifier emphasised on the importance of women in building nations.
National Rural Livelihoods Mission Pulwama in association with district hub for Empowerment of Women (Mission Shakti Pulwama) celebrated women’s day at Pulwama.
In Ladakh, All India Radio Kargil celebrated International Women Day at MP Studio AIR Kargil and organized a felicitation ceremony. BDC Shakar Chiktan Sayeeda Banoo was chief guest and Dr. Nasreen Fatima was guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Nasreen Fatima said that in Kargil the society always supported the girl child and there is always a support towards both the genders as a result of which one can see even women excelling in different fields there.
Under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority and Ladakh Legal Services Authority of UT Ladakh, District Legal Services Authority Leh celebrated International Women’s Day. The programme was participated by Yashpaul Sharma, Principal District & Sessions Judge & Leh Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Tsewang Phuntsog, Chief Judicial Magistrate Leh & Secretary DLSA Leh and others. Speakers on the occasion highlighted the significance and importance of the day.
On International Women Day, Health Department in collaboration with 26 RR (Indian Army) organized a mega free medical camp at village Jangalwar in Thathri to provide health services. Dr. Shamailla Sheikh and Sonika Devi (MLHP) from Block Thathri examined more than 200 patients during the camp.
Women’s Employees Society affiliated with Employees Federation, J&K celebrated International Women’s Day. On this occasion BJP Mahila Morcha J&K chief spokesperson, Ritika Trehan was guest of honour and while speaking on the occasion she said that PM Modi led government is committed to empower women and securing the future of children.
On International Women’s Day, CPI (M) leader M.Y Tarigam said that democratic forces must pledge to fight for values like equality, democracy, human dignity and women’s liberation.
International Women’s Day was also celebrated by State Bank of India with theme ‘Empowering Women, Transforming Lives’. Dr. Jayanti Datta from Punjab University and Eram Rizvi from Chandigarh Police were chief guests.
Dulhasti Power Station celebrated International Women’s Day with enthusiasm and zeal by organizing a programme on women’s health issues. Dr. Nisha Sharma, General Manager (Medical Services) was present during the programme while M.K Kashyap, Group General Manager (In-Charge) Dulhasti Power Station also attended the inaugural ceremony and welcomed all participants of Dulhasti Power Station.
On International Women’s Day, District Administration Doda in collaboration with Social Welfare Department, Mission Shakti Doda, Childline and other allied departments organized a programme on the theme ‘DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’ highlighting the role of innovative technology in promoting gender equality and meeting the health and developmental needs of women and girls.
