International Jazz band concert enthrals Jammuites

Jazz artists from Poland performing at Zorawar Singh Auditorium on Sunday.

JAMMU, Mar 17:  Adding another feather to its cap, Regional Office of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, organized first ever International Jazz band concert, at Zorawar Singh Auditorium, here today.
The International Jazz show featuring new Bone Jazz band of Krakow, Poland, enthralled the jam-packed audience, especially young local western music aficionado who were thrilled to have an intimate experience of a live performance by professional artistes.
The new Bone Jazz Band of Poland comprised of the team of five musicians which included Tomasz Kudyk (Trumpt, fluehorn) Bartlomeij Prucnal (Alto sax), Pawel Kaczmarczyk (Piano), Machiej Adamczak (Double Bass) and Dawid Fortuna (Drums). Tomasz Kudyk is a trumpeter, composer, graduate of Music Academy of Karkow. Tomasz is author of the most of compositions performed by the band. Bartlomeij Prucnal, youngest member of the band is winner of many festivals of Poland and abroad. Pawel Kaczmarczyk is one of pre-eminent jazz pianists from the younger generation who is called a revelation of Polish and European jazz scene for his virtuosity, creativity and surprisingly mature technique. Machiej Adamczak is a graduate of Jazz and Entertainment Music at the Music Academy in Katowice. He is a laureate of many national competitions. Dawid Fortuna is a graduate of the Music school Artur Rubinstein in Bydgoszcz who has won many International competitions of young jazz bands.
The visiting jazz quintet from Krakow, formed in 1996 by the initiative of trumpeter Tomasz Kudyk. The breakthrough moment in the band’s carrier was recording of the debut album ”Something for now” in 2004 with Gowi Records studio, which included the author’s compositions of the leader of the band – Tomasz Kudyk. Since that moment, the band started to appear in the most important places of the Polish jazz scene. In 2009 new Bone band recorded the second album ”It’s not easy”, which is the continuation of ”Something for now”, however it brings on the new vision of the group playing, and interaction between the musicians. In January 2012 the band registered material for the third author’s album, entitled”Destined” (premiere: April 2012), recorded featuring Tomasz Grzegorski playing tenor sax and Jan Pilch on percussions. The author of the music, as well as of the most compositions performed by New Bone, is the band’s leader Tomasz Kudyk.
Welcoming, the Regional Director, ICCR, Balwant Thakur said that the larger constituency of ICCR is to promote global understanding and mutual relationship through cultural initiatives by bringing nations together and visit of the Polish music group was part of the said initiative. He said is the third occasion when ICCR has brought international group. Earlier, the groups from Zambia and Laos have successfully presented best of their performances in Jammu. He acknowledged the special support of  Gurinder Pal of Roving Sikhs  and Anmol Amla of Heritage Strings, Bakshi Nagar.
At the culmination of the performance, the visiting team Jazz musicians were also honoured by ICCR Jammu. The honours were done by K.B. Aggarwal, Principal Secretary Higher Education Department and Balwant Thakur. The show was ably conducted by Naveen Chopra.
