JAMMU, Oct 11:Various Government Hospitals besides some other institutions celebrated The International Day of girl child with great fervour.
International Day of Girl Child was celebrated today in Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar.
On the occasion, Director, Health Services, Jammu, Dr Madhu Khullar, congratulated all the parents, who were blessed with girl child, and presented gifts to the children.
Highlighting the importance of girls in the society, the Director impressed upon every body to discourage the female foeticide and protect the rights of girl child besides ensuring equal opportunities, primary and secondary education and special attention on nutrition during adolescent age.
The Day was also celebrated in the premises of Primary Health Centre (PHC), Kot Bhalwal, in which ASHAs, adolescent girls, female OPD patients and staff of the Centre participated.
Giving lecture, BMO, Kot Bhalwal, Dr Preetam Katoch, ZMOs Dr Nisha, Dr Balkees and DR Manzoor highlighted the issues of saving the girl child, gender equality in all spheres, primary and secondary of girl child and nutrition and health awareness during adolescent age.
PHC Dansal also celebrated International Day of Girl Child in its premises. The students from Lovely Higher Secondary School, Dansal, ANMs, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers of the Block also participated in the interactive session organised on the occasion by BMO Dansal, Dr Sumir Kaul.
Various aspects of child marriage and nutritional imbalance, adolescent health queries, PC and PNDT Act, gender bias in the society were discussed at length.
While speaking, BMO, Dansal, laid emphasis on the implementation of Maternal Child Health Programmes in the country.
The International day of girl child, which promotes girls’ rights and highlights inequalities that remains between girls and boys, was celebrated at Government Hospital Sarwal, wherein the Director, Health Services, Dr Madhu Khullar along with Dr Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent, Sarwal Hospital, presented gifts to new born girl babies in gyane wards, and girls visiting the hospital to get treatment.
On the occasion, cheques of Rs1000 were given in advance to the mothers of newborn baby girls.
To celebrate the International Day of female child, an awareness camp was organised in SDH Marh under the supervision of Block Medical Officer, Marh, Dr LD Bhagat.
A large number of ASHAs school children, teachers and local populace attended the function, wherein various speakers highlighted the importance of female child besides other issues like decreasing ratio of female child and its impact on society and the steps taken by the Government to control the menace of female foeticide.
Later, BMO distributed gifts to the girl students, which participated in the function.
A special assembly was conducted at Lawrence Public School, Jammu, to celebrate the International Day of Girl Child.
Both teachers and students spoke about the importance of the Day, while delivering their speeches. They also spoke about the important role played by a girl being a daughter, sister and mother in the Society.
Later the students pledged to protect the rights of the girl children.
