NEW DELHI, Apr 3 : International border measuring approximately 5,500 km, along the North Eastern Region of India, has been fully sealed following the lockdown, in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.
This was disclosed here today by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances,Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, after a detailed review meeting convened by him through video-conferencing, in which Secretary Development of North Easter Region, Secretary North Eastern Council (NEC), CMD NETDFi and other senior officers participated from their respective places in Delhi, Shillong and other locations.
During the meeting, Dr Jitendra Singh was informed that all the officers and staff of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, North Eastern Council and the affiliated PSUs have contributed one day’s salary to the PM-Care Relief Fund. As far as the CSR funds are concerned, the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) has already contributed Rs. 2 crore to PM Cares Relief Fund while other PSUs, namely North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC), North East Handicrafts & Handlooms Corporation Ltd (NEHHDC), will follow the same.
The Minster was given follow – up to the decision taken by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region to sanction Rs. 25 crore to North Eastern States to fight the Covid-19 outbreak effectively. This amount is over and above the funds already sanctioned by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, North Eastern Council (NEC) and other non-exempt Ministries of Government of India. The allocation of funds has also been done State-wise by the Ministry of DoNER and NEC.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of DoNER has asked the various State governments to submit their proposals by 6th April for projects related to health infrastructure, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. The projects in the health sector will be sanctioned on top priority.
