JAMMU, July 25: Three weeks Interdisciplinary Summer School in Social Sciences, organised by the Department of History, University of Jammu, concluded today with a valedictory function.
The course was attended by a total of 32 faculty members from various colleges and universities across India, including Jammu. Prof Nirmal Singh, Speaker, Legislative Assembly, J&K, was chief guest on the occasion and Prof R D.Sharma, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, JU, was the guest of honour. Prof Manoj Dhar, new Vice-Chancellor of JU, presided over the function.
Prof. Rakesh Batabayal from Centre for Media Studies, JNU, delivered the valedictory address and spoke on “Disciplines, institutions and Public sphere”.
Prof Shyam Narayan Lal, Head of the Department of History, presented summary proceedings of the three week long course.
Some of the prominent Resource Persons, who interacted with participants of the course, included Prof R Mahalakshmi, Centre for Historical Studies, JNU; Dr Rakesh Batabyal, who heads the Centre for Media Studies, JNU, New Delhi; Prof R C Thakran from Delhi University; Dr Harish and Radha Sharma from GNDU; Prof Ashraf Wani and Dr Javed from Kashmir University; Prof Kwaja Meem Zafar from Central University Jammu ; Dr Anil Trivedi from SMVDU and Prof Poonam Dhawan, Dean, Cluster University .
Apart from those engaged in teaching, research and academic ,were also invited member of civil society, bureaucrats, media persons as resource persons. The prominent of them being, Dr SDS Jamwal, IGP Jammu, Rita Jitender and Pradeep Dutta. Wide ranging themes having bearing on the issue of generating and disseminating different knowledge in the domain of Social Sciences were chosen by the Resource Persons for deliberations during the course.
After this, Prof J P Singh Joorel, the Director of the Academic Staff College Jammu, interacted with students and spoke about the importance of refresher courses.
Ranjit Kalra, Assistant Director, Academic Staff College extended the vote of thanks while the function was coordinated by Prof Suman Jamwal.
