JAMMU, Nov 28: Gangyal police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ busted inter-State drug racket with the arrest of five persons along with 194 grams heroin and Rs 9.49 lakh demonetized cash.
As per police spokesman, on specific information, a team from Gangyal police station raised a naka and signaled a swift car bearing registration number DL3CBM-5745 to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot.
Stinking something fishy, the cops chased the car and intercepted it near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 194 grams heroin worth several lakhs and Rs 9.49 lakh demonetized cash from the possession of five persons traveling in the car and arrested all the accused.
The accused have been identified as Amarjeet Singh, son of Ajeeb Singh of Punjab, Naseer Ahmed, son of Gulzaman Khan and Mohammad Rafiq Khan, son of Ghulam Hassan, both residents of Tirkanjan, Tehsil Boneyaar, District Baramulla, Syed Manzoor Hussain, son of Nazir Hussain of Banhalie Tirkanjan, Tehsil Boneyaar, District Baramulla and Mohammad Shafi, son of Ghulam Hussain of Gaddapur, District Shopain Kashmir.
The accused were on their way to distribute the consignment to know narcotic smugglers and consumers in Jammu, but the active cops of Gangyal police foiled their bid and arrested them.
A case under FIR Number 134/16 under Section 8/21 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at Gangyal police station and further investigation into the case is going on.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal Inspector Aijaz Ahmed made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Sachin Gupta and SP South Shaazad Salaria.
