JAMMU, Jan 22: Final Round of 1st Annual Rolling Trophy instituted by District Election Officer, Jammu organized an Inter College Quiz Competition on “Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP)” at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, here.
It is the initiative taken by the Union Cabinet to celebrate January 25 every year as the National Voters Day (NVD) to disseminate the knowledge of the democratic process to the newly inducted voters in the electoral rolls.
On this occasion Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu, Umang Narula was the chief guest, while Ajit Sahu, Deputy Commissioner was the guest of honour.
The programme began with the lighting of the lamp followed by invoking the blessings of goddess Saraswati.
Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College presented welcome address.
She also thanked the District Commissioner Jammu to choose the right place to acquaint the voters with the power of their right to vote. Observers on the event were Piyush Singla, representative of DC Office, Dr Satinder Singh, Principal SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu and Prof Savitri Sharma, Principal, GDC Paloura.
Five teams participated in the final round and they passed through five different rounds.
Chief guest and guest of honour welcomed the initiative taken by SVEEP to conduct quiz competition in a College and ensure greater participation of the voters.
Dr Manisha Kohli conducted the proceedings of the quiz.
GCW, Gandhi Nagar bagged the winner’s trophy, while the runners-up trophy went to GDC RS Pura.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks.
