Installation of Mahakaleshwar Lingam ceremony performed

SAMBA, May 4: Installation of Mahakaleshwar Lingam along with idols of Shree Ganesh and Shree Nandi Ji was performed in a well decorated and newly constructed temple on the left bank of holy river Devika at Panjtirath Ghat at Purmandal Devasthan.
A large number of devotees attended the religious function which was held with fervor and gaiety.
The function started with havan and culminated with Puran Aahuti. People drawn from different parts of Jammu participated in the function to have darshan of Mahakaleshwar Lingam. After the Yagya a community feast was served to devotees.
The organizers Swami Sita Ramji Dass, Tirath Ram Upadhay, J L Baru, Bishan Dass Goswami, Subash Sharma, Shesh Sharma, Yash Sharmaand Jaikrishan Baru said that there was undoubtly an increase in the number of pilgrims due to recent developmental activities but the age old practices of performing last rites beneath holy Shiv temple complex was badly damaging the tourism industry.
The coming up of Mahakaleshwar temple at Panjtirath Ghat will make an addition to the existing tourism infrastructure besides giving a boost to religious tourism which is a need of the hour.  They also appealed the general public to perform last rites and other religious rites of dead at the Mahakaleshwar Dham which is the best route for providing solace to the departed souls as well as saving the sanctity of the Devasthan Purmandal.
They also appealed the district administration Samba to order complete ban on cremations beneath Shiva Temple Complex as ordered earlier.
