BUDGAM, Nov 5: Two plays — ‘Insaaf’ and ‘Asvun Thagg’ were featured today, on the second day of ‘Bhand Pather’ show series being organized by Natrang in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi.
The first play of the day “Insaaf”, written and directed by Farooq Ahmed Bhagat and presented by Damudar Folk Theatre, was staged at Aerigam, Khan Sahib in Budgam and second play “Asvun Thagg”, written and directed by Ghulam Nabi Bhagat and presented by Luk Pather Centre was staged at Wagad in Budgam.
The play ‘Insaaf’ altogether brought a new theme focusing the struggle of the survival of the community of Bhand Pather. They created a situation in which Bhands are given the option to shift to other professions but they fail in every profession. Dejected by the system, the moment they prepare to attempt mass suicide, they come across a saint who tells them not to leave the art of educating masses through their wonderful art of Bhand Pather which is meant to bring smile on the depressed faces.
The second play ‘Asvun Thagg’ was a hard hitting social satire showcasing the contemporary life of Kashmir. In a symbolic manner, the playwritter has shown a village inhabited by innocent people and suddenly others start joining them. The new entrants bring with them new technology and upgraded systems of living. But they also bring with them the art of cheating and befooling others. Interestingly the innocent class instead of getting attracted to the finest art of living and the new technology of production and development, they catch the art of befooling and cheating and soon become masters of this art. For some time they succeed and take pride in their doings but slowly they start finding that they have degenerated their character. The play came out to be a big lesson for many who desire a lot without deserving for that.
