GANGTOK, Jun 29: Sino-Indian Border Trade via Nathula has been picking up, now that the licensed traders have received their individual passes.
Earlier, the traders used to get passes which were as good as passport for visiting the stipulated mart in TAR (China).
“Now even the drivers have to obtain pass. All the eligible trader applicants have been issued passes,” said District Collector (East), Kapil Meena.
“On the Chinese side, the mart has been shifted to Yadong county from Rinquiengang. Trading is taking place but is slow due to low demand. Rinquiengang was only 18 kms drive from border, but the new destination is 31 kms away. As the road is good, there is no problem,” said T. Chepel, one of the border traders.
However, the border trade mart on Indian side continues in Sherathang . (UNI)
