Industrial sector suffers due to traffic chaos on NH: BBIA

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Apr 13: Bari Brahmana Industries Association has alleged that industrial sector has been suffering badly due to traffic mis-management on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
A meeting of the BBIA was held here today under the presidentship of Lalit Mahajan in presence of other office bearers including Suresh Mahajan, Varun Singla, Ajay Langer, Viraaj Malhotra and other members of BBIA to discuss the issue in respect of mismanagement of traffic movement on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway resulting considerable delay in the receipt of raw materials from Kashmir valley and dispatch of finished products from Jammu to Kashmir, Doda, Kishtwar and other parts of the State.
It is pertinent to mention here that in order to facilitate the movement of security convoys for the Parliamentary polls starting April 11, the Government has banned civilian traffic twice a week (from 4 am to 5 pm on Sunday and Wednesday) on a 300-km stretch of the Highway from Srinagar to Jammu and vice-versa till May 31 whereas, no restrictions on the movement of goods in night on twice a week and during the remaining days road is functional 24×7 but due to mismanagement of traffic movement on Highway, it will take days to reach the goods from Jammu to Kashmir and Kashmir to Jammu resulting steep hike in the transportation charges.
The production/dispatch of finished goods of the Industrial units is suffering very badly due to transit delay resulting huge financial losses to the unit holders and in case of perishable items and milk products 100% losses reported in some consignments.
BBIA appealed to the Governor Satya Pal Malik, K. Vijay Kumar Advisor to Governor and Alok Kumar, IPS, IGP Traffic, J&K to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on National Highway from Jammu to Srinagar and vice-versa.
