Industrial sector at verge of closure in J&K: BBIA

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, July 3:  Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) has claimed that industrial sector is at the verge of closure in the J&K State in view of prevailing situation due to non-implementation of GST in the State.
A meeting of the members of Bari Brahmana Industries Association was held here today under the chairmanship of  Suresh Mahajan, senior vice president of the BBIA,  in presence of  Ajay Langer,  general secretary,  Vivek Singhal secretary, Viraaj Malhotra – treasurer  and other members,  to discuss the issue in respect of uncertainty prevailed over the non-implementation of GST by J&K State Govt from  July Ist, 2017 in the State for the survival of Industrial sector.
The members present in the meeting discussed, that it is not possible for the Industrial units to continue their Industrial activities as GST is not adopted by the State Govt as it is not possible to bring raw material from outside the side as well as dispatch of finished goods to other parts of the country due to double taxation  and non-availability of the tax credit resulting in total collapse of Industrial activities in J&K  State  and the Industrial units working in the State have no option but to close down their units as there would not be any difference between the prices of the goods being manufactured in J&K and other parts of the country and the unit holders may shift their units to the nearest market in the other parts of the country resulting a sharp increase in the un-employment graph in the State.
The members raised their serious concern in respect of non-implementation of GST by J&K Govt which has created panic amongst the Industrial fraternity  and number of units have stopped their production activities as well as planning to lay off their labour in near future.
Further, it is pertinent to mention here that there is no flow of incoming of raw material  and outgoing of finished goods at Lakhanpur.  BBIA appealed to  the Chief Minister  Mehooba Mufti, Finance Minister Dr Haseeb A. Drabu  and  Chander Parkash, Industries & Commerce Minister to implement GST in J&K immediately.
