On a long journey to tread putting an end to perpetual discrimination from the successive (the then state) governments with Jammu region, it is heartening to note that North India’s first Biotech Park is going to come up at Ghatti in Kathua. Like this, Kathua getting the distinction of joining the club of ten cities of the country having Biotech Park is a proud moment. Kathua could, therefore, emerge as the StartUp destination of North India. It is, therefore, a moment of great satisfaction and is otherwise one more step to realise the larger dream of a Self Reliant India pursued by the Prime Minister. A Biotech Park can literally be described as ”a largely blank campus on which there is an opportunity to paint some beautiful things’- say to advance products and technology and make more efforts in respect of research in the field of Biotechnology.
The Biotech Park with its various assignments and roles, thus, could prove quite useful for scientists, promising small and medium sized entrepreneurs etc in taking forward and nurturing their life science ideas, discoveries, experiences etc in fields like Agriculture, Industrial, Medical and Environmental Biotechnology and translate the same into commercial value with no risks involved. Fields like genetically modified crops, improving plant growth, quality of plant seeds, animal health and breeding, growing fruit and the like are generally getting the focus as a result of setting up of Biotech Parks. Look at it in terms of addressing employment related issues and the feeling is that such projects really open new vistas of employment for the youth.
