KATHUA, Feb 1: Induction ceremony of first year batch of Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua was conducted today at new building of the College.
Financial Commissioner (FC), Health & Medical Education Department (H&MED), J&K, Atal Dulloo was the chief guest while Deputy Commissioner Kathua O P Bhagat was guest of honour on the occasion. The ceremony included Apron wearing, stethoscope adoring, Hippocratic and cadaveric oath of 1st year MBBS students.
On the occasion, Department of Microbiology was also inaugurated in new building of GMC Kathua by Atal Dulloo, who was accompanied by DC Kathua OP Bhagat, GMC Jammu Principal Dr Shashi Sudan and GMC Kathua Principal Dr Ajnali Nadir Bhat and HoD Microbiology Dr Natasha Kapahi.
The new batch of 100 MBBS students were administered the oath and pledge to work as doctors to serve the community with humanity and dedication.
Speaking on the occasion, Atal Dulloo expressed satisfaction over functioning of new GMCs. He highlighted the improvement in health care ushered by opening of New Medical Colleges at District Headquarters.
While talking to media persons, Dulloo said that on the direction of National Medical Commission, the off line classes of old batch of MBBS and induction ceremony of new batch of 100 students of MBBS was held in new building of GMC Kathua.
He said with increasing medical faculty the numbers of doctors has increased from 25 to 134 in Kathua Hospital. He added that in coming days the GMC Kathua is going to start class of BSC Para Medical and BSC Nursing classes. He told that the 50 students of AIIMS Vijaypur are also going to get their classes in GMC Kathua till the completion of infrastructure.
DC Kathua, while speaking, offered all possible help to administration of GMC Kathua to improve healthcare. Director Coordination, New GMCs Dr Yashpal Sharma gave detailed overview of how these new medical colleges were perceived.
Other dignitaries present were Dr Ashok Choudhary, CMO Kathua, Dr Chitra Vaishnavi (Medical Superintendent Associated Hospital Kathua), HoD Microbiology Dr Natasha Kapahi, Dr Sabita Yograj (Coordinator MEU&CC GMC Kathua), HoDs of various departments and faculty members.
