Indigenous lightweight bulletproof jacket launched at Police Expo

NEW DELHI: Indigenously produced lightweight bullet proof jacket ‘Bhabha Kavach’ was launched here at the International Police Expo on Friday.

Developed by the Ordnance Factory Board and MIDHANI, the bullet proof jacket can with stand 7.62 mm hard steel core bullets fired using an AK 47 assault rifle, 5.56mm ammunition and also the earlier used 7.65 mm bullets.

The jacket is half a kg lesser than prescribed weight by the Union Home Ministry and also offers 360 degree protection and achieved protection level of NIJ III plus. This weighs 9.2 kg which will be a breakthrough for the forces of the country.

Several other advanced equipment that included bomb suits, specialised communication equipment, tactical lighting and camera , equipment for the canine squads of the forces were also on display in the police expo here at Pragati Maidan. (AGENCIES)
