Addressing a gathering during a 2-day International Conference titled ‘Coronaviruses-Past, Present and Future’ at SKUAST-K, Dr Jitendra said that India has come out of COVID-19 and under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi, the country’s inherent resilience and steadfastness have been depicted which has been acknowledged by the whole world.
He said that with regard to India’s global role, there is a need for addressing and managing the Start-up potential both in Jammu as well as in Kashmir and elsewhere. “There is an unexplored potential present in J&K which hasn’t got the attention it deserved.”
He said that India’s role is going to be vital for the world economy and for that, these international conferences need to talk and deliberate on pressing issues that should be addressed for ensuring that country effectively plays that role on the global front.
“During this conference, there is also a need for discussing on how to reach out to the Start-ups and how to include those who do not have resources and could not reach out to the Government,” he said.
Dr Jitendra said that the economy of India is going to be an example for the rest of the world as, he said, under the leadership of PM Modi, various unexplored sectors are being explored.
“The world is ready to be led by India and now India has to be ready to lead the world for which the youngsters with the Start-up have got the responsibility to fulfil and people like us have got the duty of their capacity building,” he said.
Talking of steps taken by the Government to deal with the COVID-19, he said that on the very first day when COVID vaccination started in the country, “we had vaccinated more number of people than the population of many of the European countries.”
While deliberating on the challenges of COVID-19 and the lessons learnt from the same, he said that on the futuristic side, Prime Minister Modi has been talking about Digital Health.
“He has been talking of for the last 5-6 years, but we did not realize the importance of it till COVID struck us and in a big way we could provide management and assistance through the means of tele-medicines,” he said.
The Minister said that there is a need for translating the lessons learnt from the COVID to ease up the matters ahead. “What did we learn from it is the main point here and there is a need for us to translate it into a scientific activity; we have to have an integrated approach and that’s what COVID taught us. A holistic approach is no longer an option but a necessity,” he said.
