The LG said that India is not a nation that seeks war. “It’s the fifth-largest economy in the world and soon to be the fourth. Pakistan has now realized that nothing is beyond India’s reach,” he added.
Sinha lauded the Army for its bravery and effectiveness in preventing casualties during the recent hostilities. “No deaths were reported, and only three persons sustained minor injuries,” he said.
The LG said that the Government of India by giving a befitting reply to April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians, mostly tourists dead, has sent a strong message to the world that “terrorists can’t hide anywhere.”
Sinha said Pakistan had been informed in advance that only terrorist camps and related infrastructure would be targeted. “On the evenings of May 6 and 7, the Indian Armed Forces conducted precision strikes on nine key terrorist infrastructure sites, avoiding any civilian or Indian military locations. Pakistan retaliated, prompting the Indian Army to respond decisively on May 8, 9, and 10,” he said, adding, “the world witnessed the courage and resolve of our soldiers.
“Our neighbour is bent on destroying humanity on the strength of debt. I think they must have learnt a lesson from the reply given by our brave soldiers. I salute your valour, bravery and devotion towards Maa Bharti and pray to God that whenever such a crisis comes, the people should know that our country is in the safe hands of heroes like you,” he said.
The LG also reviewed the security situation on the ground with Army and police officials. He said the country is grateful to our Armed Forces for protecting the lives and ensuring the sanctity of our borders with alertness, dedication, bravery and supreme sacrifice.
“I am confident that our Jawans will firmly deal with any misadventure by the enemy,” Sinha added.
In the meantime, talking to reporters at Tanghdar, Sinha said that Government will approach the Centre to seek help for the rehabilitation of the Pakistan shelling hit victims.
“Administration has made the assessment & immediate assistance has been provided. A few people are left to be rehabilitated. But I feel this help is not enough. I’ve asked Div Com & senior officers to prepare a comprehensive plan so that we can request GoI for proper rehabilitation,” he said.
The LG during his visit to the frontier villages along the Line of Control hit by Pakistan shelling assured the people that the Government stands by them and they would be provided all the possible assistance and help.
“I have spoken directly with people to understand their issues. I am thankful to my administration colleagues who remained committed even in tough situations to ease public hardship. Immediate relief has been provided after assessment, but I believe it’s not enough,” he added.
During his visit, the residents urged LG to ensure the construction of underground bunkers for their safety — they appealed to prioritize their protection, especially for families living close to the Line of Control, where shelling poses a serious threat.
“We are poor and don’t want to suffer again. Bunkers are essential now”, affected residents told Sinha.
The LG directed the officers to ensure that victims of Pakistan shelling should be provided all the possible support without any delay.
While reviewing the relief and rehabilitation measures taken by the Administration, the Lieutenant Governor was briefed by Shri Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Ms Ayushi Sudan, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara about the ongoing appraisal of requirements and construction of bunkers through Gram Sabhas.
