JAMMU, Feb 15: IGP (Headquarters) J&K police Garib Dass today said that India’s record on human rights is one of the best in the world.
He outlined the various contours on the subject of human rights. He also dwelt on various international and national initiatives taken for the protection of human rights. While sharing his experiences, he narrated many anecdotes from his active service where police have to protect people while safeguarding their human rights as well.
The IGP was speaking during inaugural function of the 2-week interdisciplinary Refresher course in human rights for College and University teachers, at University of Jammu. He stressed that society as a whole should make a concerted effort for the promotion and protection of human rights. In the future, technology will play an important role in the implementation of human rights, he added.
Earlier presenting welcome address, Prof Samridhi Arora, Department of Home Science, JU (Coordinator of the course) gave the objectives and details of the programme to the participants. She mentioned that the sessions will be aimed at developing an understanding of Human rights and their application in the field.
Prof Rahul Gupta, Director, HRDC, University of Jammu, deliberated on the specifications related to the refresher course and shared that this is the 105th course being organized by the HRDC Centre.
Dr Sarika Manhas, Associate Professor, Department of Home Science, JU (Co-coordinator of the Course) while interacting with the participants underlined the importance of regular updating of academic knowledge by teachers.
The Refresher course is being attended by 30 college and University teachers from the States of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Leh-Kargil, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Prominent among others who graced the occasion were Prof Rajni Dhingra (DRS, JU), Prof Neeru Sharma and Prof Shashi Manhas.
Ranjeet Kalra, Teaching Faculty, UGC HRDC, JU presented a formal vote of thanks. The program was conducted by Vinish Malik, Research Scholar of the Department of Home Science.
