JAMMU, Dec 5: The valedictory function of the 37th Indian Geography Congress, organized under the aegis of the National Association of Geographers India, concluded in Jammu University. Professor Harjit Singh of JNU, New Delhi, was chief guest of the valedictory function. Professor V S Manhas, convener of the conference, presented the report of the three day conference.
Around 800 Geographers from all over the country participated and presented their research papers. Besides this, four Memorial Lectures were presented in the conference. Professor S C Rai, Secretary General, National Association of Geographers, India, announced two Awards for best paper in the conference.
The N P Aiyyar Young Geographer Award was given to Balasubraminium from Bharti Deshan University, Tiruchapalli while the B Hemamalani Eminent Geographer Award was given to Nageshwar Rao, Department of Geography, Vishakhapatanum University. Dr Anuradha Sharma, Head of the Department and Organising secretary of the conference presented the vote of thanks.
The proceedings of the valedictory function were conducted by Dr Shashi Prava, Assistant Professor in the Department. The main focus of the conference theme was pertaining to Tourism, Resource Development and Environment with special reference to GIS and reference techniques.
