Indian Army commemorates victory at Nangi Tekri

KRISHNA GHATI, Dec 10: December 10, 1971, a momentous day in the martial history of Indian Army was commemorated in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch, today.
The victory at Nangi Tekri by 21 Punjab Battalion in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war was the result of a bold attack by 21 Punjab which had evicted Pakistani army from Indian soil. One officer, one JCO and 23 Jawans of 21 Punjab had laid down their lives for the Nation in a fierce close quarter battle and a greatful Nation bestowed one Maha Vir Chakra, one Vir Chakra, two Sena medals and two mention-in-despatches on the victorious Punjabis.
Wreaths were laid on the occasion by Brigadier Arupam Bhagi, Commander, Krishna Ghati Brigade and Commanding contingents from 21 Punjab and 22 Sikh. Ceremonial contingents from 21 Punjab and 22 Sikh paid homage as the last post resounded in the hills of Krishna Ghati signifying the Indian Army’s resolve to defend every inch of the country.
