Elevated helipad to be constructed at AIIMS

NEW DELHI, Dec 10:
Government has found appropriate the location for the construction of proposed elevated helipad at the premier medical research institute AIIMS for private use category following a site inspection by the authorities concerned, Lok Sabha was informed.
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has to now prepare a detailed project report and start construction (of the helipad), Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma informed Lok Sabha today. AIIMS has applied for permission for construction of elevated  heliport for private use category in day VFR operations on the rooftop of Trauma Centre, Sharma said in reply to a question. “A site inspection was carried out on October 13, 2015 and the site has been found appropriate  for construction for private use category in day VFR conditions,” he said. Visual flight rules (VFR) are a set of regulations under which a pilot operates an aircraft in weather conditions generally clear enough to allow the pilot to see where the aircraft is going.
The Minister further said that AIIMS has contracted mini ratna firm  Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation for construction of building and helipad “who will obtain environmental/regulatory clearances form the Ministry of Environment, Defence and Home Affairs as well as local bodies, among others, for the operations of the helipad.
